Activities at Milford House Care Home

The Activities Team at Milford House are dedicated to providing a range of stimulating activities for both groups and individuals, that promote both physical and mental wellbeing based upon resident's interests both past and present. As a member of the National Activity Providers Association (NAPA) the team are always striving to incorporate best practice into the array of activities on offer and to enhance their own skills through qualification with NAPA to NVQ Level 3 in Activities Provision. The team combine weekly activity favourites such as sherry mornings with special events, musical entertainments, slide shows, outings in our own mini-bus as well as interacting with local community groups such as Plain Arts Salisbury to showcase resident art and creativity and others who come into the home to interact with our residents. Milford House also benefits from a strong network of volunteers who support the Activity Team as they deliver their programme and who, along with friends and relatives, are always welcome to come and join in our sessions and outings.

Ready for Valentine's Day

Residents at Milford have created wonderful decorations for the home for everyone to enjoy as part of our Valentine's Day celebrations. There was a special lunch featuring activities that reflected the theme of the day and much fun was had by all.  We were all reminded that this time last year one of our residents proposed to his now wife on Valentine's Day - how romantic!

Mayor of Salisbury opens art exhibition

Residents welcomed The Mayor of Salisbury, Councillor Tom Corbin who formally opened the Milford House Care Home Art Exhibition featuring the local group Phoenix Artists; Mel Cane, Mary Gilson and Liz Hoppe who all work from a riverside studio in nearby Laverstock. The artists are all members of Plain Arts Salisbury, as is the home, and residents thoroughly enjoyed the opening and chatting to the artists and visitors who attended the opening. All the works will be on display until mid-February and are available for sale and feature the themes of landscape, flowers animals and more.

Residents prepare for Big Garden Birdwatch

In preparation for the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch, which runs from the 27th - 29th January, and following on making our bird feeders in readiness we have been finding out more about some of the garden birds that we hope to see and count and making sure that we can identify them. We had great fun looking at the facts and myths behind some of our favourite garden visitors and then drew them and made little models (thanks to our HOM Bill for the stands) to remind us what we will be looking out for when the time comes and as quick identifying aides.

Vintage Memories

Milford residents certainly enjoyed their visit from Duncan and his 1948 Albion lorry which was in service locally as a Brewer’s Dray until 1963. It was then sold and used until 1986 after which it was left outside and allowed to become derelict. The lorry was restored to its former glory in 1997 after four years of restoration work. It's now a regular at venues such as the Dorset Steam Fair and the Berwick St John Country Fayre where it helps raise money for local charities.

While we viewed the truck and admired the gleaming paintwork we chatted to Duncan and enjoyed mulled wine and mince pies. There was only one disappointment – that it wasn’t carrying the original cargo of ale! Thank you Duncan for a great afternoon.

Residents Celebrate Gingerbread House Day

Milford residents celebrated the day with enthusiasm and great fun as they got together to create a fabulous replica of the home complete with porch and Christmas wreath on the front door for Gingerbread House Day . Until this week we might have said that the snowman and snow were a little over the top but, with the freezing temperatures and flurries of snow, our baking and decorating has truly imitated life. We will be entering our 'Milford House' into Barchester's Gingerbread House competition - so good luck everyone and fingers crossed!

Milford Residents have the Party Spirit

There was lots of party spirit in evidence as residents enjoyed their Christmas Wine & Cheese Party. There was a fabulous cheese and charcuterie board as the main event, followed by trays of 'sweet treats' to round off the evening and of course the wine! Many thanks to the chef team who prepared the tempting treats and to all the staff who joined in the evening. Crackers were pulled, jokes told and party hats were all the rage - it was a great evening. Looking forward to the next party already!
