Activities at Milford House Care Home

The Activities Team at Milford House are dedicated to providing a range of stimulating activities for both groups and individuals, that promote both physical and mental wellbeing based upon resident's interests both past and present. As a member of the National Activity Providers Association (NAPA) the team are always striving to incorporate best practice into the array of activities on offer and to enhance their own skills through qualification with NAPA to NVQ Level 3 in Activities Provision. The team combine weekly activity favourites such as sherry mornings with special events, musical entertainments, slide shows, outings in our own mini-bus as well as interacting with local community groups such as Plain Arts Salisbury to showcase resident art and creativity and others who come into the home to interact with our residents. Milford House also benefits from a strong network of volunteers who support the Activity Team as they deliver their programme and who, along with friends and relatives, are always welcome to come and join in our sessions and outings.

Enjoying our Neighbourhood

Residents have enjoyed spending time out and about in our local neighbourhood and they began with a trip back to nature with a wonderful walk along the boardwalk running alongside the River Bourne at Whitebridge Spinney in Laverstock. Two minutes from the home in our mini-bus, this peaceful circuit through the willows and greenery along the bank of the crystal clear river was a perfect morning outing. Everyone enjoyed looking at the informative boards dotted along the route that highlighted some of birds, animals and fish that we might see and we used the vantage points to sit and look while enjoying some lovely dappled sunlight. Another close-by favourite is the Café at River Bourne Community Farm where we regularly enjoy a cup of coffee and cake coupled with a warm welcome before venturing out to see the animals weather permitting! We had trouble tearing ourselves away to go home!

Creating Art Inspired by Local Farm Visits

Our amazingly creative residents have just finished this fabulous artwork as part of our series of pictures based on our trips to River Bourne Community Farm and are justifiably proud of the result. Everyone fell in love with the gorgeous Highland Cattle on one of our visits and the photo we took served as the inspiration for the colourful piece created using recycled fabric - and what a gorgeous and fun interpretation they have made. It is one of a series of works (which you can currently see in our in-house art gallery) that will hang at Waterstones in Salisbury which will go up at the end of August. What's next? - can't wait to see!!!

A Stellar Garden Party

It was a fabulous afternoon at Milford with Cosmic Sparkle in the house entertaining all our residents, staff, friends and family for our Garden Party. And weren't we lucky - as it rained and drizzled until just before our doors opened - when we rushed round to dry off all our furniture and set up outside and then the sun came out until just after we had finished - when the heavens opened again! There were games, ice cream, a yummy tea and a real buzz in the home and it was so lovely to see our courtyard and rooms absolutely packed with everyone getting into the spirit of the afternoon and loving the music. Thank you to all our teams front and back of house who contributed to the afternoon and to everyone for coming - it was just a great afternoon.

Cycling for Fun

A group of residents visited Cedars Care Home - Barchester Healthcare at Landford for a fabulously fun afternoon of cycling with the team from Pedall - New Forest Inclusive Cycling . Everyone had a ball - and our huge thanks go to the team from Pedall for making it such fun and to the team from The Cedars for organising the day and making sure there was plenty of tea and scrummy cakes on offer as well. It was lovely to be out in the fresh air and residents loved the whole cycling experience and it brought back many happy memories of cycling to school to work and for pleasure. We are looking forward to doing it again!!

Perfect Afternoon with the Ponies

Residents and family members enjoyed a great afternoon at Riding for the Disabled - Wilton Group with all the volunteers and ponies. Everyone was made to feel so welcome as they were shown around the stables and met up with the wonderful ponies who are just so sweet and gentle. Residents petted, groomed and fed the ponies before being treated to tea and homemade cakes. It was a particularly nostalgic afternoon for one of our residents who had volunteered with the group previously and who was thrilled to be back. Thank you all for such a happy afternoon we can't wait to come back later in the summer.

Fishy Friday Memories

Milford residents recently celebrated getting our fish tank back up and running again with a new look and selection of fish and we supported this with the latest in our series of 'Making Memories' lunches which this time appropriately took the sea as its theme. The 'Fish Tank Lounge' was specially decorated with all things fishy for the lunch and of course there was fish and chips on the menu! The table settings looked fabulous and there was even a pianist, Paul Stoney, who came in and played at the end of the meal while everyone enjoyed their coffee - what a perfect ending to the special meal. Thanks to our chief organiser Gale, chef Becky, helpers Bridget and Tina and everyone who made the lunch so special - there were truly lots of memories to take away.
