Activities at Meadowbeck Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Tina Holmes

Lead Activities Co-ordinator

Hi, I’m Tina, and I am the Activities Coordinator here at Meadowbeck.

I began working at the home as a Care Assistant in 1999. In 2014, I changed my role to Social Support Worker, which I enjoyed, as it involved supporting residents at Meadowbeck in their daily lifestyles.

I then became the Activities Coordinator in May 2017. I love working with our residents and getting to know them and their families. In addition to supporting them maintain an active lifestyle I always ensure to personally get to know each resident when they move in with us to support them in the continuation of any hobbies or interests the might have.

Life at Meadowbeck Care Home

Knit and Natter

The sound of chatter and laughter was heard throughout the home as the ladies of Meadowbeck as they love to get out there knitting needles and wool and have a good old natter whilst clicking away with their knitting.

As part of this interactive and popular group activity, they have come up with the idea to knit all coloured squares to make baby blankets to donate to York hospital for their baby unit.

Residents Stroll Down the Cobbles

Residents of Meadowbeck recently enjoyed a stroll down the cobbles of Castle Museum as they took in the tour of this famous museum on a recent day trip.

The trip brought back many fond memories of this historical city of York and its finest shops before enjoying a refreshing coffee and selection of delicious cakes in the café.

Music Therapy

Music Therapy

Fun packed music session with Maggie. These sessions help with stimulation, well-being and helps to create a healthy happy mind. The afternoon was very popular with residents with lots of singing, dancing, hands clapping and toe tapping.

Games Session

Games Session

Anna our physiotherapist teams up with Tina our lifestyle and activity coordinator on a regular basis for these sessions to help  maintain balance and coordination of residents at Meadowbeck. Very good for their well-being as laughter fills the room.

Summer Fete

Summer Fete

There was something for everyone to enjoy at our recent summer fete, from traditional summer fete games, including a tombola and raffle and a selection of stalls.

Residents welcomed their visitors who came along to join in with the summer celebrations. The home's chefs also prepared a delicious selection of home-made cakes for everyone to enjoy.

Tina Holmes, activities coordinator said "Our summer fête was a fun-filled day for both residents and visitors alike. There was laughter and smiles all around as everyone enjoyed taking part in the activities and making new friends”.

Cheese and Wine Taster , Cheese and Wine Taster

Cheese and Wine Taster

Residents welcomed their families and friends for a cheese and wine evening. Residents got to pick from a selection of cheeses – including stinky stilton and cheddar – to accompany their wine or tipple of choice. “Everyone enjoyed the cheese and wine event. Some of the resident even became wine and cheese connoisseurs. It’s safe to say only a few crumbs were left at the end of the event.”
