Activities at Meadow Park Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

A trip to Blyth Beach

Today residents have ventured to the coast, we hired a beach hut and enjoyed fish & chips with the lovely MIND Active team.

Residents enjoyed people watching at the beach hut, chatting to passers-by, and admiring all the dogs walking along the beach, we even had a few strokes which was lovely.

We then had fish and chips from Coastline Fish and Chip shop Blyth Northumberland with lots of salt and vinegar, residents chatted about how much fish and chips cost in their day, and were quite shocked at the current prices, everyone enjoyed it all the same. We then finished off with a seaside quiz and an ice cream.

We love taking part in these events, as it’s a great opportunity to come together with other homes and members of the community, we were thrilled to bump into an old friend Vivienne who once resided at Meadow Park.

Mayfair of Nightingales

Residents across our services had a fantastic time joining Mandy Morrow for a virtual walking tour to learn about the ‘Herstory’ of Mayfair. The Mayfair of Nightingales may be long gone but it still holds a 20th century charm. Birthplace to the late Queen Elizabeth II, home to one of WWII's most decorated female war heroes and a tale of a wealthy Aristocrat and one of France's favourite designers.

We were delighted to take a walk down memory lane and discover stories from one of London's most iconic areas.  The experience was truly enjoyed by all.

National Cheer Up the Lonely Day

We have welcomed back some familiar faces to Meadow Park, residents who have stayed with us on respite, and have since settled back into the community.

Marlene, Sylvia and Pat have enjoyed catching up with residents they became close to at Meadow Park. They enjoyed chatting over lunch and a nice cup of tea. It’s nice to stay in touch and everybody really enjoyed it, with resident wanting it to become a regular thing.

100th Birthday

On the 16th of March 2011, our lovely Violet came to live with us here at Meadow Park, a character to say the least, popular with her friends, and always willing to help. Violet loved the Be-Ro Book and shopping at John Lewis, a very proud family lady, who always talked about her children and grandchildren.

Born 100 years ago in 1923, when King George V ruled the United Kingdom, Insulin was introduced to treat diabetes and it cost 1p for a pint of milk.

Violet celebrated with all of her family at Meadow Park, where they all shared fond memories to mark this occasion, with a tea party and a bottle of bubbly. Violet also received a card from King Charles and Queen Camilla.

World Chocolate Day

National ice cream day went down a treat at Meadow Park. Our local ice cream man ‘Skippy’s Whippys’ came to serve us the most delicious Mr Whippy ice cream, smothered in monkeys blood and topped with a Cadburys chocolate flake.

Residents have loved being able to go out to the ice cream man and get an ice cream, everyone was delighted at the sound of his chime when he entered the car park, it sure did bring back lots of happy memories.

Dogs Trust

Residents across our homes had a fantastic time during a special live virtual event, led by Jennifer and Emily from Dogs Trust, the UK's largest dog welfare charity. Jennifer and Emily took us on a journey to discover the rich history of Dogs Trust and their facilities.

Using captivating video and photo footage, our residents were able to explore rehoming centres and learn more about the highest level of welfare offered there. It was a delightful experience for everyone, especially our dog lovers.
