Activities at Lethen Park Care Home
Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Amanda McCarthy
We all know that keeping active is important. We have created a wonderful culture within the home and we work together to give residents the best possible experience. We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active. We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centered program of events and activities. Essential to our homely feel is the strong relationships of trust we build with residents and their families and friends
Activities and Events Partnerships
As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies
Life at Lethen Park Care Home

David has a new sense of independence
David often gets a great urge to go a long walk however often feels that his zimmer was not safe enough for the unsteady paths of Portlethen. His family newly invested in a Wheelchair for David meaning that he was not limited to short walks with his zimmer.
On resident of the day Amanda and Davie took his brand new chair out for its first big walk. David and Amanda went a 10km walk around Portlethen. David was very happy to be out in the community and experiencing everyday life with Amanda.
On their walk they went to the post office and posted a letter to his friends from Elgin, They also went to the local Park and then ended the Walk at Amanda’s blue van called Delilah.
Amanda and Davie shared a cup of tea from the back of the van, David had a brilliant resident of the day with Amanda and felt so happy and full of Joy.
David’s walks and independence will grow and David is looking forward to his next BIG walk with Amanda.

Mary's Day!
Mary really enjoyed her resident of the day experience here at Lethen Park. Mary and Amanda spent time in the garden looking at all the flowers. Mary really enjoyed the tout of the garden and was very happy to have fresh air. During this time Amanda and Mary had listened to Music and had a beautiful chat about the tatties, the purple Iruses and then reminisced about her garden and years gone by.
Once we left the garden Amanda extended the experience and gave Mary a luxurious manicure and then painted her nails a beautiful shade of pale pink.
Mary had a very pleasant experience and enjoyed the time with Amanda. Mary and Amanda look forward to spending another 1-1 together very soon.

Arthur's Day!
Arthur had a very special interaction with Amanda. Arthur really enjoys spending time in his room, during the day Arthur enjoys watching his TV, having visits from loved ones and especially loves when the carers bring the tea trolley round. Over the past few weeks Amanda has been encouraging Arthur out of his room and into the dining room for small interactions.
Arthur confidence in this environment has been growing and during the month of March Arthur has been enjoying his 1-1 time with Amanda. Arthur really enjoys selecting his activity to play or do with Amanda. Arthur is vastly becoming a great Dominos player, Amanda and Arthur are really enjoying this interaction, Arthur has a great deal of joy and connectedness during this interaction and this gives Amanda a sense of pride.
Arthur has also enjoyed the physical side to the game, Having to organise his hand, Having, to balance the dominos on their end and also stretching over the table to play his hand, Arthur said that he feels like it helps move his Arms.
Now that Amanda and Arthurs relationship is building on trust, Arthur has agreed that once the WOW is complete that he will come to the lounge for Gentleman’s Club once this starts back up.

Charity Cook Off
Staff and residents are celebrating because their wonderful Managing Director, Fiona Fagan, from Barchester’s North East and Scotland Division, has stepped completely out of her comfort zone to compete in the Barchester Charitable Foundation Cook Off 2024.
Fiona went head-to-head with the Managing Directors from Barchester’s four other divisions and cooked up a storm to raise a phenomenal £24,595 for Barchester’s Charitable Foundation which helps connect vulnerable people and those living with a disability to community groups in their local area by providing grants to improve mobility and quality of life. Each year the Foundation distributes thousands of pounds to individuals, small community groups and charities across England, Scotland and Wales.

Eden Project
Residents across our homes had a fantastic time exploring the Eden Project virtually - an educational charity and visitor attraction based in Cornwall, featuring sprawling outdoor gardens and breathtaking biomes that house the largest indoor rainforest in the world.
During the session, residents who joined were reconnected with nature through their senses, memories and stories. A big thank you to the community team at the Eden Project for the wonderful event.
