Activities at Leonard Lodge Care Home

Activities at Leonard Lodge

Our activities team offer a wide range of social events, from the very popular Friday morning bingo, to gentle exercise sessions, skittles, regular animal visits and arts & crafts sessions. We are fortunate to have a team of volunteers who stop by weekly to provide additional support, allowing residents the opportunity for one-to-one sessions. These sessions could include anything, even something as simple as playing a game of Scrabble or just having a cup of tea and a chat. We believe that it is essential to support people in such a way that they are able to continue to live full and happy lives doing the things that they enjoy.

Lynn Amiri

Activities Coordinator

My name is Lynn and I lead the Activities Team here at Leonard Lodge.

Since working at Leonard Lodge I have dedicated myself to ensuring that each of our residents can continue to partake in the hobbies that they have enjoyed for years. It is important that all of the residents here have access to life enriching, fun and social activities.

The whole home supports my team and I to organise activities, events and entertainment tailored to every residents preferences, abilities and needs. Each year we have a fantastically full calendar, and we look forward to the future when we can invite the families of residents to join us in the home again.

I am married with two children and two rather annoying rescue cats. I lived in Italy for a number of years and love all Italian food, especially when somebody else cooks it for me! I love to read, especially crime novels. I am a regular theatre goer with a passion for musicals. I like to sing and dance (albeit badly!).

Get Growing

Our gardener, Tomas, has set up a vegetable patch in our courtyard garden. The residents have been watching everything growing and have been looking forward to eating the tasty fruit and veg. Unfortunately, the squirrels got to the strawberries before we did and now we have discovered a massive invasion of caterpillars, who are eating the cabbages. We have high hopes for the tomatoes and have agreed that we will leave the caterpillars to it, in the hope we will see dozens of beautiful butterflies.

Residents' Meeting

Residents' Meeting

We held our latest residents' meeting in the garden to take advantage of the lovely weather. The residents enjoyed voicing their opinions, but they enjoyed the ice creams and ice lollies even more.

We celebrated National Cream Tea Day by holding a bingo session out in the garden. The residents enjoyed their tea and scones and found the activity team's efforts to control the squirty cream coming out of the can highly amusing.

An Afternoon of Music

Staff and residents received a visit from the Hadleigh Ukuele U3A group, thanks to one of our residents Marion, whose sister Teresa is in the group. The group gave us an afternoon of great music and fun and residents enjoyed a wonderful show.

Fun Exercise

Fun Exercise

Residents enjoyed a morning of armchair exercises followed by a fencing session with former Leonard Lodge Carer, John. The residents had good fun and released some of their pent up energy, accidently whacking John with their foam swords

Mad Hatter's Tea Party

Mad Hatter's Tea Party

We all donned funny hats for the Mad Hatter's Tea Party, but some people carried it off better than others. The sun shone, and the entertainment by Billy Blue Rondo was excellent, as always.

Local fundraiser, Anne, organised our Cupcake Day, making some of the cakes herself and persauding local supermarkets and bakers to donate. We raised money for a good cause and had a lovely afternoon sampling all the cakes.

Dementia Awareness Week

Dementia Awareness Week

To celebrate Dementia Awareness Week and raise funds for Barchester's Charitable Foundation, the staff took part in a sponsored blue and purple lipstick day and the residents did some beautiful purple flower arrangements. The lipstick caused amusement among the residents and even some of the male staff took part.
