Activities at Kenwyn Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

An Easter Egg Hunt to Remember!

Over Easter, we invited some very important guests to Kenwyn - a class of 35 year 2 children from St Mary's C of E Truro.
We had prepared an exciting Easter Egg hunt around Kenwyn’s fabulous gardens and we were lucky that the sun shone whilst the children were flying around frantically finding all the eggs and collecting them in their baskets.
We have said before how magical it is when the young and the elderly  come together, the gap between generations melting away, and we invite lots of children and groups to visit us. Today was no different!
Kenwyn’s residents loved watching the mornings events and the excitement almost lifted the roof!
After the Egg hunt, the year twos kindly sang for our residents and then each one was presented with a special Easter goody bag - from us to them.
We don’t think it will be long before we invite them back!

Our Therapy Dog, Rosie

The benefits of Therapy animals are widely documented, especially in Care homes. Recognised to increase our emotional wellbeing and much more. Actually stroking an animal can release happy hormones such as Serotonin, Prolactin and Oxytocin.

At Kenwyn we run various pet therapy programmes, inviting a whole host of animals to visit us, from ducklings to ponies and snakes to Owls!

The dog owners amongst you won’t be surprised to hear that Rosie the therapy dog is definitely one of our favourites and our residents adore her.

Rosie is a special little dog who brings with her a lovely energy that spreads around Kenwyn.

Easter Cup Cakes

At Kenwyn we like nothing more than to immerse ourselves in an afternoons baking.

On this occasion and considering the time of year, Easter Cup Cakes were the order of the day.

Kenwyn’s residents are hands on with all things baking and as you can see here, the results were rather impressive – along with rather tasty.

Baby and Toddler Playgroup

What a special morning we had this morning as we shared in laughs and fun with babies and toddlers from Bits & Bobs Playgroup Mid Cornwall. Our residents' faces were beaming with joy as they joined in play with the children, throwing balls, reading books and racing cars... and also enjoyed special sessions of bubble time and sing-a-longs. There's nothing like being around the playful innocence of young ones to remind us of the simple pleasures in life. Thank you to all the mums, dads and tots for visiting us this morning and giving us these special memories.

A Special Performance

We were so lucky to be spoilt with a really special performance by Kenny and Kevin of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra. The orchestra has been touring Cornwall and we were one of the special personal visits they made while in town. The pair played and array of beautiful classic pieces which had everyone humming and singing along while they showed off their talents on the violin, French horn and piano. This was a very special performance which everyone enjoyed and we’re so thankful to the team for bringing classical symphonies to our home.

Police make a surprise visit to Kenwyn

Alan, one of our beloved residents, is a very proud ex-PC Officer who served in East London from 1953 - 1977. He was on duty at the Queen's Coronation and said his role helped him learn very quickly how to use his words. Alan enjoys sharing stories of his time as an Officer and can often be found beaming with pride while chatting to others about his experiences and dedication.

Recently, Officer Rowan Clarke from Devon and Cornwall Police, stopped by to surprise Alan, and what an incredible surprise it was! Alan was absolutely over the moon to chat with Rowan and talk about how the vehicles had advanced and how policing has changed in recent years with technology. Alan was able to share memories with Rowan of running across the rooftops of London in classic old school style!

Thank you, Rowan, for this meaningful visit and for sharing a special morning with a fellow Officer.
