Activities at Hollyfields Care Home

Our Activities programme is formulated using resident requests and feedback from resident meetings. Residents are involved in planning the programme with things they they would like to do throughout the year. There is a mixture of activities that take place including both group and 1-1 engagement. Residents at Hollyfields particularly enjoy movement to music activities enabling them to increase their level of physical abilities and have fun at the same time, whilst others enjoy musical singalongs and food based activities throughout the week.

We have a mini bus that enables us to reconnect our residents with their community in ways that suite themselves as individuals. This can be achieved by visiting local farms, Georgian towns, local attractions and even the local public house for lunch with friends. Hollyfields have a great relationship with their local community and have visits from local organisations such as The Wyre Community Land Trust and are currently undertaking a 12 week funded project from Arts Etc. Residents at Hollyfields enjoy Pet Therapy visits from their pet rabbit 'Thumper' and like to help clean and feed him daily. Relatives can be encouraged to join us for activities and again are very supportive with delivering theme days and fundraising events within the home.

Kaylee White

Activities Coordinator

Hi, my name is Kaylee and I joined the Hollyfields care team in February 2021. I love getting to know our residents and I'm extremely passionate about their continued wellbeing and life enrichment through tailored activities. I became part of the Activities team to develop more in this area and expand the type of fulfilling activities and events we provide.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

63 Years of Wedded Bliss

Resident Pat was joined by her husband Alan for a romantic meal for two within the Hollyfields dinning room as we had the pleasure of hosting their Wedding Anniversary celebrating 63 years of wedded bliss!

They enjoyed a lovely lunch together reminiscing as they cut the cake to their wedding day.

Cruising Down the River Severn

Today we have been cruising down the river. Our residents enjoyed a lovely lunch out followed by a peaceful trip down the River Severn.

Regular outings are just one aspect of our life enrichment program and all the trips we take are at the request of the residents. Our monthly activities calendar boasts a range of outings and entertainment.

Kaylee took a day out of her annual leave and along with her daughter they supported us on our trip. Thank you both. We followed in the cruise theme with a virtual cruise at the home with props and themed cakes!

Olympic Fever at Hollyfields

Today our residents enjoyed watching the Paris Olympics as the competitors practiced their back flips we settled down for some less strenuous exercises and floor game sports. We were definitely going for gold! Mavis won the bowls. Trudy’s hand-eye coordination was on point with the hand ball and Pat’s score on Quoit blew everyone’s out of the water!

During our afternoon of fun we had some great memories shared, though not quite Olympic sports, rounders and rugby seemed to be the firm favourites from our resident’s childhoods.

Mavis had us chuckling as the gymnastics, declaring ‘yes, that’s what I do first thing every morning!’

Baking Session - Cheesecakes

National Cheesecake Day on 30th July is one of the creamiest days of the year! It's a day to indulge in the decadence of this dessert and the residents at Hollyfields and Ivy House enjoyed making their very own deconstructed cheesecakes on this very special day. It’s safe to say, they had the most fun eating them!

We also reminisced about our favourite puddings and those our residents like to bake themselves… Lilly’s was upside apple cake and Beryl liked anything with fruit.

Happy Day at Hartlebury Castle

Some of our residents enjoyed a lovely day out today, having a picnic in the gorgeous grounds of Hartlebury Castle. We had some lessons in horticulture from Sheila and Martin, their combined experiences and advice are greatly welcomed by us green finger wannabe's!

Attending Sunday Service

This week we attended the Sunday Service at St Mary and All Saints in Kidderminster Church of England Diocese of Worcester. Our residents really enjoyed being a part of the wider community and talked about their days not only in adult life visiting church, but as children, when for many of them they were part of the choir.

It was quite emotional and we are so humbled by the kindness shown to us all. Also a big thank you to Gemma who came in on her day off to support the outing. We couldn’t do these things without the help and kindness from our staff and volunteers.
