Activities at Hollyfields Care Home

Our Activities programme is formulated using resident requests and feedback from resident meetings. Residents are involved in planning the programme with things they they would like to do throughout the year. There is a mixture of activities that take place including both group and 1-1 engagement. Residents at Hollyfields particularly enjoy movement to music activities enabling them to increase their level of physical abilities and have fun at the same time, whilst others enjoy musical singalongs and food based activities throughout the week.

We have a mini bus that enables us to reconnect our residents with their community in ways that suite themselves as individuals. This can be achieved by visiting local farms, Georgian towns, local attractions and even the local public house for lunch with friends. Hollyfields have a great relationship with their local community and have visits from local organisations such as The Wyre Community Land Trust and are currently undertaking a 12 week funded project from Arts Etc. Residents at Hollyfields enjoy Pet Therapy visits from their pet rabbit 'Thumper' and like to help clean and feed him daily. Relatives can be encouraged to join us for activities and again are very supportive with delivering theme days and fundraising events within the home.

Seaside Trip for Birthday Girl

Our Mavis turned 94 a couple of weeks ago. We asked her where she would like to go the most. She said ‘The Beach!’ Now, if we had waited for a good day, we could be waiting until her next birthday! So today it was!

Guess what?! The weather held for us! We had a lovely few hours and chatted about the good old days! We would highly recommend a visit to Just as You are Tea Cottage next to the Severn Beach a lovely little tea room that was easily accessible with wheelchairs.

Family Fun on Open Day

What a lovely day our residents have had!

Our home was open for a family fun day, welcoming you all to come and join us and our wonderful residents for fun, food and refreshments. We had such blast with live entertainment from Barry, a well loved accordion player, our residents have met Barry a few times now and he never fails to put a smile on all of our faces..

Followed by singer Matt… the atmosphere was amazing. The smiles, priceless. The rain… well it came and we shone through it!

We even had a special visit from PCSO’s Nicola and Kate. The ladies engaged with our residents and families and all the excited children who wanted to sit in the car! It’s so crazy how the universe connects us. One of our residents taught at my old high school (Kimberley) and it turned out Nicola was in the year below.

Thank you to our stall holders and to the people that took time out of their day to come and say hello. A huge thank you also to the staff today, those on shift, for your continued hard work and to those that came in early to help and also those that came in on their days off. It’s truly humbling to see such love and warmth.

Monthly Pudding Club - June

Today we held our monthly pudding club. Residents and family members enjoyed tucking into a pudding or two made by Head chef Sarah and Chef Thomas. We also had a visit from Skye and her baby Elijah, everybody had a smile on their faces seeing this perfect little pudding!

Resident Pat also celebrated her Birthday this morning with her husband Alan. Pat loved all her gifts and beautiful flowers she received. She got to blow her candle out whilst everyone sang Happy Birthday!

Pooches on Parade

Our summer dog show was a huge success and our residents loved meeting everyone’s pooches. Thank you to those who bought your furry friends along! It means so much to us as a team to see so many warm faces all taking time out of their day to come and join in our activities and sit and chat with both staff and residents.

Obviously the dogs were the main attraction today and I think they enjoyed the fuss just as much as we enjoying giving them! They all did so well!

Blue Knight Bikers!

Our residents and staff have had such amazing day today! A massive thank you goes out to The Blue Knights, who took time out of their day to visit our residents. It was so heart warming to see the residents clap and wave as they arrived.

The Blue Knights are a group of ex/retired police and prison officers. The warmth they showed our residents was beyond words. Our residents loved to chat about their own experiences on motorbikes, both in their youth and adulthood.

Even Derek came out to say hi and was super impressed with the bikes.
