Activities at Hilton Park Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Jenelyn Szabo

Activity Coordinator

Hello, my name is Jenelyn and I am the head of activities here at Hilton Park.

Having started my Barchester journey as a carer back in 2019, I have gained good experience of working closely with our residents. After being a carer I then moved onto the Activities team and thoroughly enjoyed working as an Activities co-ordinator, which led to my promotion to Activity Lead.

Nothing makes me happier than seeing the smiles on our residents faces.

An unexpected trip

Yesterday, after supper, Cate approached Kim, the Team Leader, requesting permission to take a walk in the village. Kim then asked Jenny, the activity staff, if she could accompany Cate on the stroll. Jenny gladly agreed, and together they ventured into the village and grabbed some coffee. Unexpectedly, Jenny surprised Cate by taking her to The Barn at Spring Farm nearby. While sipping her coffee, Cate was pleasantly surprised to find a delightful group of goats. She said, "This is so lovely, Jenny. I didn't expect this." Cate returned home with a big smile on her face.

Hilton Park Race Day!

What a fantastic event we had today! From live music by Boots 'n' Strings to our first-ever fashion show featuring beautiful dresses and hats, horse races, and a photo exhibition – everything went wonderfully, and everyone had a lovely time. We are incredibly thankful for all the support we received from the families of our residents, Tesco Community Champion Sandra, InVoke Digital Signage for providing the prizes, Aldona for graciously lending us her beautiful hat collection and Melanie and Karen for judging our fashion show. Additionally, a big thank you to Boots N Strings for the entertainment and to our hardworking activities team, well done to you all.

Hilton Park Residents Visit Bottisham Airfield Museum

Staff and residents from Barchester's Hilton Park Care Home in Bottisham had a fantastic time visiting the Bottisham at War Museum 1940’s Weekend. They thoroughly enjoyed taking part in this annual event, which featured a variety of attractions such as vintage war cars, antiques stalls, vintage war clothes, and medical equipment from the war era. The residents and staff had a wonderful time exploring each department and meeting new people.

Geanina Tenca, the General Manager, expressed her delight, saying, 'We absolutely love being able to take our residents out and about to visit the Bottisham Airfield Museum. It makes us so happy to have access to venues like this. It has been a fantastic day, and we've all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.'

One resident, Ronald, conveyed his gratitude to Jenny, the head of activities, by saying, 'You made my day! I couldn't believe I'm here. I will never forget this day.' Hilton Park Care Home is thrilled to have participated in the Bottisham at War 1940s Weekend event. Our residents had a blast exploring the event, admiring vintage war cars, immersing themselves in the lively atmosphere, and making new friends. Margaret, one of our residents, was especially delighted to see her grandson volunteering at such a young age.

Our very special 99-year-old, Ron, was moved to tears after meeting the lovely visitors of the Bottisham Airfield Museum. They shared stories of their experiences fighting for our country, and Ron went into great detail about his own past. He was so proud to tell his story! Being able to visit places like this and soak up the atmosphere is truly lovely.

Overall, the Bottisham at War 1940s Weekend was a remarkable experience for everyone from Hilton Park care home. We are grateful to the organisers for putting together such a captivating event that allowed our residents to immerse themselves in the spirit of the era. The vintage war cars, the nostalgic atmosphere, and the heartfelt connections made with fellow visitors and war veterans truly made it a day to remember. We extend our heartfelt appreciation to the Bottisham Airfield Museum and all those involved in making this event possible. It's events like these that bring history to life and create cherished memories for our residents and staff.

Dog Therapy Visit

The residents and staff were pleasantly surprised as these lovely dogs showcased their talents and even visited our dog lovers who were in their rooms. It truly brightened our day. Thank you so much for visiting us.

Classic Car Show

We are grateful for all the support we received. A heartfelt thank you to all classic and vintage car and motorbike enthusiasts who joined us this afternoon. Our appreciation also extends to every member of the Cambridge Classic And Vintage Car Owners' Community who participated in today's event. Your presence truly added to the occasion.

A special acknowledgement to our fantastic entertainer who made the event even more lively. The families and residents were truly amazed by the beautiful vehicles and the convivial atmosphere.

To our friends, families, staff, volunteers and especially the activities team who organised this event, your hard work was instrumental in making this event a success.

We would like to express our gratitude to everyone involved. Your contribution made this gathering a remarkable one. Thank you.

Wish Came True Today!

Another wish came true today. One of our residents, Richard, and the activity team went to Waterbeach Angling Club to make Richard's wish come true.

Richard was overwhelmed to hold the fishing gear again after 20 years. We are incredibly thankful to Colin, a member of the Waterbeach Angling Club, who sat with Richard for a couple of hours and provided everything he needed.

Richard caught lots of fish and released them back into the water. We returned to our home with a fulfilling feeling, knowing we made Richard so happy.
