Activities at Hilton Park Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Hello, my name is Jenelyn and I am the head of activities here at Hilton Park.

Having started my Barchester journey as a carer back in 2019, I have gained good experience of working closely with our residents. After being a carer I then moved onto the Activities team and thoroughly enjoyed working as an Activities co-ordinator, which led to my promotion to Activity Lead.

Nothing makes me happier than seeing the smiles on our residents faces.

Zoom, Zoom, Zoom

We had a fabulous afternoon with the British Motor Museum this week, listening to a very interesting and entraining live Zoom talk on the first cars made in the UK from 1820-1920.

Fun fact: the term 'I don't give two hoots' was born over 100 years ago when the first car horns were introduced; one hoot was to let another driver know you were near, two hoots was to show your annoyance / road rage, but three hoots was considered ghastly, completely unthinkable and vulgar!

Real Bread Week

Baking has been very popular across the whole of the UK during lockdown. Here at Hilton Park, we tried our hand at baking some bread and are happy to say it was delicious!

Journeys Through Art

We may not be able to visit the Fitzwilliam at present, but that doesn’t mean we cannot view some glorious artwork!

We have joined up to the ‘Journeys Through Art’ postcard project with the museum. They send us regular postcards featuring some of the greatest pieces with information on the back of the cards about the image and artist. We have been enjoying these immensely.

Some residents have chosen to put these postcards in their rooms, on their walls, and some have decided to try and emulate some of the images in our creative arts and painting sessions!

We look forward to visiting the museum when lockdown is lifted.

Knitting Project

Take a look at these fabulous knitted squares, created by some of our talented ladies here. The squares will be sewn together and made into a large patchwork blanket. This project is in conjunction with the Co-op funeralcare program, which is a wonderful organisation.

The Magic Table

Introducing our new magician: the Magic Table!

Designed and manufactured in the UK, the Magic Table 360 uses interactive games to connect residents with staff and with each other, and research shows it improves the wellbeing of people living with dementia.

The table helps improve quality of life, bringing well-needed connection and all-round happiness here at the home, it can be played independently or in a group, it stimulates movement by inviting participants to take part in all sorts of different fun activities. Games are rich in colour, movement and detail, and allow people of all ages to play in a safe and comfortable environment along with being portable and can be projected on an array of canvases.

We’re super excited to have this fabulous new equipment and look forward to using it with many residents.

Chocolate Donation

Many thanks to John Lewis & Partners, Cambridge, for their incredibly kind donation of glorious chocolates. They will be enjoyed by staff and residents here at Hilton Park, Barchester. Chocolate for breakfast, anyone?!
