Activities at Herne Place Care Home

Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure are a major focus of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat is always be welcomed.

Sophie Glasgow

Activities Coordinator

My name is Sophie, I am the Activities Coordinator here at Herne Place Care Home. It is my duty to ensure all residents feel happy and content. I love my job because I enjoy seeing our residents smiling and having fun on a daily basis.

I enjoy getting to know all of our residents on a one-to-one basis and in a group setting. This allows me to get to know their hobbies and ambitions as individuals, and fulfil these with life enriching activities they appreciate and will benefit from.

Life at Herne Place Care Home

,

Chinese New Year

Staff and residents at Herne Place welcomed in the year of the ox with a day of celebrations and activities.

Inspired by Chinese culture and traditions, lucky red envelopes were exchanged and the home was decorated with hanging red lanterns. Residents learnt all about the traditions and superstitions of Chinese New Year. Head Chef, Roger, cooked up an oriental feast for lunch and residents enjoyed the delicious food washed down with pots of Chinese tea.

We have had a brilliant day; the home looks absolutely wonderful decorated all in red and we all had such fun finding out what animal we are, the associated traits and reading each other’s horoscopes. The residents loved watching videos of traditional lion and dragon dances too.

Valentine's Biscuits

The chefs at Herne Place baked and donated to Age UK Herne Bay & Whitstable, 200 homemade heart shaped biscuits for their clients for Valentine's Day.

National Elf Day

Staff at Herne Place swapped their uniforms for costumes on National Elf Day in an effort to raise funds to help people living with dementia.

Launched by the Alzheimer’s Society and delivered direct from the North Pole, Elf Day was created to sprinkle some festive cheer on fundraising towards finding a cure for dementia. From stripy socks to head-to-toe elf outfits, anything goes – there’s snow better way to raise money to help beat dementia.

On the day, residents and staff at Herne Place were able to enjoy elf-themed games, including a best-dressed elf competition, a Christmas quiz, elf-bingo, all paired with a festive-themed spread as the team at the home donned their elfish apparel.

Well done, Maria!

Congratulations to Activities Coordinator, Maria Apps, who was named as a Regional Finalist in the 2020 Great British Care Awards.

A Herne Halloween

Herne Place was a den of ghoulish activity as the home’s spooky Halloween party got in to full swing.

Residents and staff got in to the spirit of things with Halloween music playing whilst they were making Halloween garlands, carving pumpkins and decorating pumpkins. The home ran a community pumpkin carving competition, where the residents judged the photographs sent in and chose the winners.

Our residents and staff love an opportunity to dress up, and what better time of the year to do this than Halloween? We’ve had a whole range of tricks and treats for the residents and we have all really enjoyed every moment of it!.

Virtual Cat Competition

Herne Place is very passionate about being part of the local community.

The residents took an hour and half to choose the 4 winners of our lovable cat competition, as they were all so gorgeous, it was a really difficult decision for the residents to make, as we had a huge response from you all, so thank you for all your lovely entries.

It has been really good fun to do this competition with you all and see your beautiful cats. Maybe when we can open our home again to events, we can do an actual competition here at Herne Place, where you can come along with your animals to show everyone, as we would love to meet you and your pets in person.
