Activities at Henford House Care Home

Our Activities Coordinators are constantly striving to mentally and physically stimulate those we support by organising group and individual activities for anyone and everyone to participate in, as well as visits from PAT dogs, musicians and entertainers. We also host evenings such as our cheese & wine nights, pub evening, quiz nights and special occasions such as, Guy Fawkes, Easter and Christmas where we like to encourage relatives to come to. Activities are one of the most important aspects of a care home, so it is essential that our team are dedicated to ensuring that residents are entertained, and that life at Henford House is fun and active.

Debbie Phillips

Activities Coordinator

I joined Henford House in March 2014; after five and a half years of domiciliary care, this position became available at Henford and I decided that it would be great to do more of the fun things in life with residents! It is great here at the home; we get along so well and truly have some laughs. Residents have a wide range of activities to participate in each week, including armchair exercises, bingo sessions, singalongs, musical entertainment, pottery, manicures, celebrations and much more. It is very rewarding knowing that people are grateful for the work I've done when I go. Working here has also given me the opportunity to gain my Level 2 NAPA certificate.

Harvest Festival

The residents at Henford House celebrated Harvest Festival in church service, Eva from Christ Church took the service and Pam our piano player played for the selection of hymns.  Resident Peter read a reading out loud and everyone sang very well and appreciate these types of service can take place as it is important for many of our residents that they can follow their faith.  At this time of year Henford House starts a collection box for Warminster food bank which we have done for many years now and realise how many members of the community rely on this.

New kiln for pottery

We are thrilled to have our new kiln in place for our pottery sessions.  Pottery has been running for many years here at Henford House supervised by our potter Alvin and volunteer Sally, many residents enjoy creating their projects and when they have the finished result they like to give them to family and friends.  The old kiln gave up a couple years ago and all the residents work had to go to Radstock to get kilned which has taken some time for the residents to complete their projects, but now we have this new one on site the finished results will be coming back much quicker now!

Annual Garden Party

On Saturday 29th July Henford House had their annual garden party which luckily was able to take place outside in the garden as the weather remained kind for everyone for the afternoon.

General manager Charlie Osgood opened the event at 2pm. Residents, relations and the community gathered to enjoy country and western music with Vanessa, Tropical Discovery with Kris allowing many weird and wonderful creatures to be observed and handled.

Many trade stalls from the farmers country market and other traders were enjoyed along with the traditional tombola, wine or water and raffle. Delicious cakes, cream teas and a BBQ were also on offer.

Henford House are able to give Salisbury hospital stars appeal a donation of £650 and we thank everyone for attending and helping us raise this amount of money to go to a great cause.

A Picnic with Warminster Stroke Club

Henford House invited the Warminster Stroke Club for a picnic in the garden, before covid the club had enjoyed a 3 course lunch in the dining room. From that dining experience we did gain a new resident so it was lovely for him to see some old faces and have a good old catch up,  which encouraged other residents to get involved and come and have a chat and meet new people whilst enjoying a delicious picnic and strawberries and cream, the weather remained kind and everybody had a great afternoon.
