Activities at Henford House Care Home

Our Activities Coordinators are constantly striving to mentally and physically stimulate those we support by organising group and individual activities for anyone and everyone to participate in, as well as visits from PAT dogs, musicians and entertainers. We also host evenings such as our cheese & wine nights, pub evening, quiz nights and special occasions such as, Guy Fawkes, Easter and Christmas where we like to encourage relatives to come to. Activities are one of the most important aspects of a care home, so it is essential that our team are dedicated to ensuring that residents are entertained, and that life at Henford House is fun and active.

Debbie Phillips

Activities Coordinator

I joined Henford House in March 2014; after five and a half years of domiciliary care, this position became available at Henford and I decided that it would be great to do more of the fun things in life with residents! It is great here at the home; we get along so well and truly have some laughs. Residents have a wide range of activities to participate in each week, including armchair exercises, bingo sessions, singalongs, musical entertainment, pottery, manicures, celebrations and much more. It is very rewarding knowing that people are grateful for the work I've done when I go. Working here has also given me the opportunity to gain my Level 2 NAPA certificate.

Bastille Day

Every year the residents look forward to Bastille Day listening to French songs and learning different things about France but most of all indulging in our delicious French picnic with fresh French stick baguettes with a variety of cheeses and pate, washed down with some fine wine, sadly this year the picnic had to be held in doors due to the weather but was still enjoyed by all. General manager Charlie shared some videos with the residents from his own experience of Bastille Day celebrations in France.

Discovering history in Henford House

Our maintenance team are decorating one of the rooms in the original part of the home , and below the light is a wooden frame in front of the window, many decorators have signed this over the years dating from 1956 when Henford House would have been a family home to Commander Robinson and his family, we have recently posted the photos on our Facebook page which has received many comments about the decorators that signed.

Fluffy Friends

Everyone loves a furry friend, and our residents fell in love with our visitors who were rabbits and guinea pigs, smoothing their velvety coats and offering them a carrot!  Our favourite one was Chuck the long haired guinea pig who was full of character and toured the whole home so everyone got a chance to see him.  The company Sharandys visit Henford House often alternating with owls and birds and then the rabbits and owls, it is always a lovely afternoon.

Ascot Ladies Day

Ladies day has always got the attention from our female residents and they enjoy getting together to observe the ladies fancy frocks and hats, besides choosing their horses for fun to win.  As most of the Ascot guests were indulging in prosecco and nibbles we decided to do the same which was thoroughly enjoyed by all.  Some of our residents had been to Ascot in their time so was lovely listening to all the wonderful memories they had made and shared with us.

A Trip to the Garden Centre

The sun was shining and the skies were blue and it was a perfect afternoon to visit our local garden centre at Crocker ton.  The journey was not too long on the mini bus and the first stop was at the café for tea/ coffee and cake.  The residents then enjoyed a walk around the centre looking at all the lovely flowers and different items you can buy for the garden, reminiscing about their own gardens and what they enjoyed most.  Further on in to the walk we were met by the ducks and geese which were amusing and watching the carp in the lake.  The residents were grateful to be out and about amongst the community and finished the afternoon off looking around the shop and a couple of them purchased some items before returning to Henford House for supper.
