Activities at Glenroyd Care Home

Here at the Glenroyd our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. Everyone is different and gets pleasure from different things and here at Glenroyd we understand that and therefore try to provide a programme of activity that is tailored to individuals needs. We do this by gathering information and life history work and using that information to feed into our activities schedule. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Agata Prendota

Activities Coordinator

Hi, my name is Agata Prendota and I am the activities coordinator here at Glenroyd. I have worked at Glenroyd since 2014 and in April 2022 transferred to activities. I developed a strong relationship with many of our residents and their families. This has helped me to create a tailored activities program focused on maximizing everyone’s wellbeing, independence, and social engagement.

It is my goal to create a stimulating environment that enables to provide imaginative, fun, and motivational activities that suit every interest and ability. My infectious enthusiasm and creative approach are the key to inspire our residents and staff to get involved in activities both within the home and in the local community.

I am passionate about my role and especially the challenge of coming up with new ways to engage as many residents as possible in daily activities.

Life at Glenroyd Care Home

A dog is for life

Residents across our homes had a fantastic time during a special live virtual event, led by Jennifer and Emily from Dogs Trust, the UK's largest dog welfare charity. Jennifer and Emily took us on a journey to discover the rich history of Dogs Trust and their facilities.

Using captivating video and photo footage, our residents were able to explore rehoming centres and learn more about the highest level of welfare offered there. It was a delightful experience for everyone, especially our dog lovers.

Baking and Gentle Exercise

Today our residents got their aprons on and enjoyed some baking! There were some delicious scones and a scrumptious banana loaf. They had a great time, with plenty of laughs and chatter as they shared their most cherished baking techniques.

After all of that hard work in the kitchen, it was time for a cup of tea and a spot of relaxation in the garden. Residents enjoyed some fresh air and sunshine while they sipped on their tea, chatting and catching up with each other.

To finish off their lovely day, in the afternoon the residents had a seated gentle exercise session in the garden that combined the use of stretch bands and yoga poses in honour of National Yoga Day. It was a great way to get the blood flowing and to focus on their breathing and posture.

Well done to all residents at Glenroyd Care Home for their enthusiasm and energetic spirit. It's heart-warming to see everyone enjoying themselves and having a lovely time together.

Volleyball Game

Our residents had a wonderful time playing a seated in chair volleyball game in the garden today. It was beautiful to see everyone laughing, having a good time and keeping active with this fun physical activity.

It is so important for our residents to be as active as possible, and seeing the smiles on their faces after the game was so heart-warming.

We are so proud of our residents and are happy to keep making their life fun and fulfilled with many more exciting activities to come.

Father's Day Celebrations

We had an incredible afternoon celebrating Father's Day with our beloved residents and their relatives.

The afternoon garden party was the perfect way for our residents and their families to connect and enjoy each other's company. With live music from the talented Marianne, the atmosphere was truly electric!

We served a selection of delicious refreshments throughout the event, including cocktails, wine, and beer. The drinks flowed freely, and everyone was in high spirits, laughing and chatting with one another. It was wonderful to see our residents and their loved ones bonding over the fantastic experience.

We would like to say a big thank you to the residents and their families for coming to celebrate Father's Day at Glenroyd Care Home. It was a joy to see everyone having such a great time together. We are honoured and privileged to be part of this special event commemorating the amazing fathers in our home.

Happy Father's Day to all the amazing dads out there!

A trip to Blackpool Zoo

We had such an incredible day yesterday at Blackpool Zoo when we took the residents on a fantastic trip! We were thrilled to be able to bring them to this amazing place and see all the incredible animals, but the journey really began when we watched the sea lions show! It was an absolute delight and all the residents enjoyed it, clapping and cheering along with the performers.

After the show, we worked up quite an appetite, so we headed to the cafe for some lunch. We indulged in some delicious burgers and hot dogs, and needless to say, it was the perfect fuel to continue exploring the zoo. Our residents had so much to see, from the gorillas to the monkeys, flamingos, big cats and giraffes! They were all incredibly fascinated by the beautiful creatures and their habitats.

Blackpool Zoo has some of the best attractions, from the fantastic seal and bird displays to the outstanding big cat section; it really made for a memorable day out. It makes us so proud seeing our residents being able to enjoy a day out with so many fun and exciting things to see and do.

Kudos to our team at Glenroyd Care Home! Here's to more adventures in the future!

RAF Museum London

Across our services we had a lovely time joining Rhiannon Watkinson from the RAF Museum London for an interactive talk exploring the exciting and innovative aviation history of Hendon.

Our residents were able to learn about the first flights from the fields at Hendon, the creation of the London Aerodrome and Battle of Britain pilots who flew from RAF Hendon.

The talk also included photographic and film material from the Museum’s archive. Residents across our homes had a fantastic time and we truly enjoyed the virtual experience.
