Activities at Glenroyd Care Home

Here at the Glenroyd our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. Everyone is different and gets pleasure from different things and here at Glenroyd we understand that and therefore try to provide a programme of activity that is tailored to individuals needs. We do this by gathering information and life history work and using that information to feed into our activities schedule. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Agata Prendota

Activities Coordinator

Hi, my name is Agata Prendota and I am the activities coordinator here at Glenroyd. I have worked at Glenroyd since 2014 and in April 2022 transferred to activities. I developed a strong relationship with many of our residents and their families. This has helped me to create a tailored activities program focused on maximizing everyone’s wellbeing, independence, and social engagement.

It is my goal to create a stimulating environment that enables to provide imaginative, fun, and motivational activities that suit every interest and ability. My infectious enthusiasm and creative approach are the key to inspire our residents and staff to get involved in activities both within the home and in the local community.

I am passionate about my role and especially the challenge of coming up with new ways to engage as many residents as possible in daily activities.

Life at Glenroyd Care Home

Virtual event with Royal Parks

Across our services our residents have enjoyed a wonderful live virtual talk about starlings, one of the UK’s most gregarious birds, hosted by Rachel Dowse from The Royal Parks London.

Rachel examined our long history with this bird and the importance of common species to our lives. Our residents had the opportunity to find out more about the great murmuration and why we need to pay special attention to these beauties before it's too late.

The virtual experience was truly enjoyed by all.

Magic moments of Christmas Joy

The 25th of December was a very special day for all of us at Glenroyd. We cherished every moment of being able to celebrate Christmas with our dearest residents, families and friends. It felt very special this time as due to the COVID restrictions last year we weren’t able to fully celebrate the festive season.

In the morning Santa and his elf made a surprise appearance and delivered presents to our residents. There was plenty of laughter and Ho Ho Ho shout outs. Residents were delighted opening the presents and taking photos with Santa.

And… the most delicious turkey lunch arrived on the table. Our catering team worked extremely hard to fulfil everyone’s expectations. Residents pulled the crackers, raised a glass and enjoyed the festive lunch, which Irene, one of our residents, said was "absolutely sumptuous"!

In the afternoon we had a Christmas Party with live music entertainer Marianne. Residents enjoyed singing along and dancing to Christmas songs. And of course, our residents celebrated in style by having cocktails, wine, gin and tonic and festive refreshments.

Glenroyd was filled with love and Christmas joy, and we couldn’t achieve that without our dearest residents, relatives and the lovely staff who work extremely hard. Thank you, to each and every one of you for making it so magical!

Christmas Carols from local school children

Saturday, the 17th of December was an amazing afternoon of song. We had the children from The Woodhouse Academy of Theatre Arts come to our home and perform some Christmas Carols. All of our residents and their families were singing along to the various carols and gave everyone a round of applause. The children singing warmed everyone’s hearts and we would like to thank both the teachers for their hard work and the children for their beautiful singing.

Festive Lunch at the Savoy Hotel

Yesterday our residents had a pleasure to join the festive lunch at The Savoy Hotel in Blackpool.

Ladies got their sparkling outfits ready, had a pamper session and put their make up on as well as their favourite jewellery. Gents enjoyed a hair trim and a wet shave, put their suits on and a lot of aftershave! And… we all set off to celebrate in such a glamour style! We were welcomed with a glass of sherry and then we enjoyed the traditional three course Christmas Lunch. Residents complemented the food and got to the bar for another glass of their favourite spirits.

The music was on, but everyone around was too shy to make that first step onto the dance floor. With a blink of an eye our residents got up dancing and were joined by the rest of the guests at the party. There was a lot of dancing and singing along to some of the traditional Christmas hits. Resident’s faces light up with joy and happiness when a group of friends performed a line dancing! Our residents enjoyed the social interaction with other guests at the party by chatting and dancing together. We were the first to start the boogies on the dance floor and the last ones to leave with a huge applause from everyone who joined the party.

Thank you The Savoy Hotel and everyone who attended for such an amazing afternoon!

Christmas Fayre

On Saturday the 10th of December we were excited to host our annual Christmas Fayre here at Glenroyd Care Home. We had an array of stalls selling locally produced festive treats and homemade arts and crafts, knitted fashions, personalised mugs, hair bows, wax melts and much more.

We were delighted to have lots of lovely prizes donated for our raffle. We also had a lovely Christmas teddy donated, which we used for a ‘Name the teddy’ competition. And to top it all, we were visited by the Santa, who enjoyed posing for photos in our grotto! Everyone enjoyed homemade mince pies and gingerbread cookies followed by a hot chocolate or coffee. We are absolutely thrilled with the feedback and the interest of so many visitors, families and friends.

The money raised during the event will go towards our Residents Fund.

We would like to thank the staff who worked very hard and added lots of sparkle and fun to the event. We wouldn’t be able to make it such a special day without you- our dearest residents, relatives, friends and everyone who came.

Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts!

Donkey Sanctuary Manchester

Across our services, Residents enjoyed a fantastic virtual tour of the Donkey Sanctuary Manchester. Residents were thrilled to meet the lovely herd of donkeys, including Henry and his best friend Tiny Tim and to learn more about their every day care. They were introduced to the sanctuary’s work and the impact they make to the lives of donkeys in need worldwide.  The virtual experience was truly enjoyed by all.
