Activities at Glenroyd Care Home

Here at the Glenroyd our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. Everyone is different and gets pleasure from different things and here at Glenroyd we understand that and therefore try to provide a programme of activity that is tailored to individuals needs. We do this by gathering information and life history work and using that information to feed into our activities schedule. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Agata Prendota

Activities Coordinator

Hi, my name is Agata Prendota and I am the activities coordinator here at Glenroyd. I have worked at Glenroyd since 2014 and in April 2022 transferred to activities. I developed a strong relationship with many of our residents and their families. This has helped me to create a tailored activities program focused on maximizing everyone’s wellbeing, independence, and social engagement.

It is my goal to create a stimulating environment that enables to provide imaginative, fun, and motivational activities that suit every interest and ability. My infectious enthusiasm and creative approach are the key to inspire our residents and staff to get involved in activities both within the home and in the local community.

I am passionate about my role and especially the challenge of coming up with new ways to engage as many residents as possible in daily activities.

World Cup 2022 - England VS Iran

Today at Glenroyd our residents have had a brilliant afternoon watching England’s first match in World Cup 2022. There was cheer’s, laughs and a lot of ‘Go on lads’ whilst watching the football today. But what a performance and a great result from the England team!

Our residents will have the chance to watch all the games throughout the World Cup on the big screen that we have set up here within the home.

Could 2022 be the year that ‘Football’s coming Home’?

Friday Fun

This morning our residents enjoyed movement to music with fancy dress and a lot of dancing afterwards. Residents enjoyed singing along to the music repertoire chosen by all. It comes out that a song called ‘Is this the way to Amarillo’ is one of our resident’s favourite so far.

Later on in the afternoon we enjoyed a friendly game of bingo with cup of tea and refreshments. One of the residents said: ‘I had a lovely afternoon spending time with other residents. I am looking forward to next bingo.'

An Afternoon with Sing-Along

Music is always popular with the residents across our homes, whether it’s to sing along, dance, or just listen.

Today our lovely residents have enjoyed a coffee afternoon followed by sing along to their favourite old goodies. There was plenty of joy and happiness throughout the afternoon we’ve spent in the conservatory.

We are happy to have so many talented residents who can sing along and dance to their favourite tunes.

It’s always great to socialise and spend time together while enjoying some great tunes and refreshments.

Enjoying the autumn sunshine

Yesterday the residents at Glenroyd Care Home enjoyed making the most of the autumn’s sunshine by sitting in our garden.

Our residents have been loving the nice warm weather. We have been sitting outside and having some lovely chats reminiscing on past summer where we have had lovely weather and nattering about the summer holidays we used to go on with our families. We also chatted about autumn season and admired the colours of our garden.

It’s always lovely to hear everyone’s experiences and we love to share our memories while having a cup of coffee with the company of our favourite marshmallows.

Long Service Award

Jean and Lynsday at Glenroyd Care Home have received a prestigious long service award in celebration of working at Barchester Healthcare.

Lynsday started at Barchester in October 1997, Jean started at Barchester in October 2002, and staff with the company of our residents gathered recently to see them being presented with a gold, 25 years and 10 years service badges, a gift vouchers and a flower bushes to celebrate the occasion. We’ve raised a glass of lemonade together to celebrate and appreciate their dedication and hard work throughout the years.

Sonia Smith, general manager of Glenroyd Care Home said: “We’re delighted to be celebrating 25 years and 10 years of loyal service with Lynsday and Jean. They both demonstrated their dedication and loyalty to this home and its residents year after year. I speak for all of us here at Glenroyd when I say that I’m looking forward to many more years of working with Lyndsey and Jean.”

Spooktacular Halloween Party

We all had fun today hosting a Halloween party here at Glenroyd, with live music entertainment, decorations and fancy dress themed hats and accessories.

Our residents enjoyed a wonderful afternoon with some spookily spectacular cakes and cupcakes made by our head chef.

Staff and residents took to the floor dressed as witches and other classic Halloween characters.

We all had a great time and we can’t wait for the next celebration!
