Activities at Glenroyd Care Home

Here at the Glenroyd our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. Everyone is different and gets pleasure from different things and here at Glenroyd we understand that and therefore try to provide a programme of activity that is tailored to individuals needs. We do this by gathering information and life history work and using that information to feed into our activities schedule. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Agata Prendota

Activities Coordinator

Hi, my name is Agata Prendota and I am the activities coordinator here at Glenroyd. I have worked at Glenroyd since 2014 and in April 2022 transferred to activities. I developed a strong relationship with many of our residents and their families. This has helped me to create a tailored activities program focused on maximizing everyone’s wellbeing, independence, and social engagement.

It is my goal to create a stimulating environment that enables to provide imaginative, fun, and motivational activities that suit every interest and ability. My infectious enthusiasm and creative approach are the key to inspire our residents and staff to get involved in activities both within the home and in the local community.

I am passionate about my role and especially the challenge of coming up with new ways to engage as many residents as possible in daily activities.

Life at Glenroyd Care Home

Games afternoon

In the morning our residents really enjoyed engaging in the exercise. These were group and individual sessions around the home. Our residents love nothing more than keeping fit and working on motor skills.

In the afternoon our residents enjoyed Snakes and Ladders to get a bit of friendly competition. The game went down a storm and residents really enjoyed themselves.

One resident said she remembered playing Snakes and Ladders with her children when they were small, and that it was great to reminisce about it.

Wallace Collection

Our homes had a fantastic time joining members of the Wallace Collection for an amazing sensory session.

During the live virtual experience, our residents explored one of the museum’s most beautiful Dutch flower paintings and learnt new drawing techniques.

We cannot wait to put our creative skills to a test and produce beautiful paintings of our own.

Everyone enjoyed the lovely talk, we all had lots of fun and it’s given us plenty of ideas.

Paying our respects to Her Majesty

We paid our respects to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on the day of her funeral, 19 September 2022.  The whole home came together to honour the Queen, her extraordinary life and service to the nation and the Commonwealth over 70 years of reign, making her the longest-reigning monarch in British history.

We all watched the televised service of the State Funeral that took place in Westminster Abbey, followed by the Committal Service in St George’s Chapel, on the grounds of Windsor Castle.

After the official ceremony, we had a discussion about our much loved and respected Queen, her early life and numerous milestones. We all shared our memories of her and reminisced about her extraordinary reign and contribution to our country.

In loving memory of the Queen, we worked hard to create our own Memorial Area with candles and photos of the Queen, which staff, residents, families and friends can visit anytime. We also created a book of condolences, which was signed by residents, staff and families alike.

For many of our residents, the Queen represented comfort, hope and peace over the past seven decades of her sovereignty, and she will be sorely missed.

Movement to music

Today we’ve enjoyed movement therapy group. This particular type of activity explores movement and interaction, accompanied by music to help reduce stress and encourage responses through action.

Our Residents who participated in the session had a great time playing balloon games and there was a positive energy in the room after all the singing, dancing and music. All the Residents said how much they enjoyed the session and are looking forward to the next one.

Story time

This afternoon at Glenroyd we enjoyed a lovely visit from our nursery friend’s.  As our friends will be starting ‘BIG SCHOOL’ in September, they have all been to their new schools to meet their new teacher.

Today the children told us all about their ‘First Day’. It was lovely to see the excitement and joy on the children’s faces whilst telling us all about their day. But not only did we get to hear about the children’s first day, our lovely residents also shared their memories from their first day at school to!

Today was the last visit we would have from our friends before they leave pre-school to start their journey at big school. So, from all your friends here at Glenroyd, we wish you all the best of luck for September and thank you so much for coming to visit us and making such wonderful memories that we will treasure forever.

Hawaiian Summer Party

What a lovely afternoon we’ve had today with our beloved Residents! Glenroyd Care Home hosted a themed summer garden party filled with a lot of fun, beautiful music performed by entertainer Rachel who knows how to get people dancing and Hawaiian fruit trays prepared by catering team.

Tiki bar was very occupied by serving cocktails to our Residents that like to celebrate in style. We also combined our party with National Junk Food Day, and we treated our Residents with pizzas delivered by Dominoes. After such a massive heatwave hitting United Kingdom, it was just nice to spend some time out in the garden in perfect weather condition. It’s only a sneak pick from today as there is a video coming soon which will be available on our Facebook page so, please stay tuned!
