Activities at Glenroyd Care Home

Here at the Glenroyd our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. Everyone is different and gets pleasure from different things and here at Glenroyd we understand that and therefore try to provide a programme of activity that is tailored to individuals needs. We do this by gathering information and life history work and using that information to feed into our activities schedule. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Agata Prendota

Activities Coordinator

Hi, my name is Agata Prendota and I am the activities coordinator here at Glenroyd. I have worked at Glenroyd since 2014 and in April 2022 transferred to activities. I developed a strong relationship with many of our residents and their families. This has helped me to create a tailored activities program focused on maximizing everyone’s wellbeing, independence, and social engagement.

It is my goal to create a stimulating environment that enables to provide imaginative, fun, and motivational activities that suit every interest and ability. My infectious enthusiasm and creative approach are the key to inspire our residents and staff to get involved in activities both within the home and in the local community.

I am passionate about my role and especially the challenge of coming up with new ways to engage as many residents as possible in daily activities.

Historic Royal Palaces

What a fantastic time we had during our special virtual sensory storytelling event! Our residents were absolutely delighted as Art Historian Jon Sleigh from the Historic Royal Palaces took us on a mesmerising journey through Hampton Court's rich collection.

The focus of the event was the captivating Georgian fashion and the opulent palace life. Jon's expertise and passion for art shone through as he shared fascinating stories and insights with us. It was an incredible experience that transported us back in time!

To make the event even more special, we decided to add a touch of colour. We encouraged our lovely ladies to wear something pink, to match the theme of the occasion. And oh, they looked absolutely radiant and elegant in their pink attire! It was a charming sight that added a sense of unity and excitement to the event.

As our residents immersed themselves in the virtual experience, their senses were further indulged with aromatic hot beverages and scrumptious treats. It was a sensory delight that enhanced the overall enjoyment and made it an experience to remember.

Friday Fun

The residents enjoyed an incredible sing-along session with Alan from Oomph on Demand. The conservatory was filled with joy as we sang along to our favourite tunes, tapping our feet and even moving to the music! A special shout out to our lovely nurse Angie, who’s voice echoed throughout the entire room, adding an extra touch of magic to our music-filled afternoon.

After the sing-along, we all indulged in some well-deserved cups of tea, coffee, and delicious refreshments. It was the perfect opportunity to relax, chat away, and enjoy each other's company. The conservatory was abuzz with laughter and conversation as we flipped through magazines, sharing stories and catching up on the latest news.

Friday afternoons are all about having fun, connecting with one another, and creating beautiful memories. We can't wait for our next Friday fun session!

Trip to the illuminations

We have some wonderful news to share with all of you. Tonight, the residents at Glenroyd Care Home embarked on a fantastic adventure to the renowned Blackpool illuminations. And let us tell you, it was an unforgettable experience!

To start off, we were absolutely captivated by the Blackpool Lightpool event at the iconic Blackpool Tower. The dazzling display of lights was simply magnificent, filling the night sky with vibrant colours and creating an atmosphere of pure magic. Our residents were beaming with joy, taking in every breath-taking moment.

Hawaiian Party

Our incredible residents had a blast as they embarked on a Hawaiian-themed journey that filled our hearts with joy.  The morning kicked off with a fantastic activity - baking mouth-watering pizzas together! The aroma of freshly baked crusts filled the air as our residents not only showcased their culinary skills but also enjoyed the camaraderie and teamwork involved. It was a delightful time of bonding and preparing for the party in the afternoon.

As the sun began to set, our transformed conservatory radiated a vibrant and tropical atmosphere. The decorations were simply enchanting, transporting us to an Hawaiian paradise right within our walls. Our residents were bedecked in colourful leis, and the venue exuded an island charm with its tiki bar and festive Hawaiian-themed ornaments.

The highlight of the day was the live music entertainment by the incredibly talented Marianne! Her soulful voice had us swaying and dancing to the rhythm of Hawaiian melodies and popular tunes. It was a magical experience that touched the hearts of everyone present.

To complement the festive ambiance, our catering team prepared refreshing fruit salads and beautifully arranged fruit trays. The burst of tropical flavours perfectly matched the theme, and our residents relished the delectable treats while soaking in the lively ambiance.

Barber time for our gentlemen!

Our amazing residents had a barber session in our fantastic hairdresser salon, enjoying shaves, coffee, and the timeless tunes of the 60's.  But it wasn't just about the grooming and music - it was a chance for these gentlemen to reminisce and bond over their barber shop stories. They shared tales of the barbershops they used to frequent, swapping memories and laughter along the way.

After their enjoyable chat, our gentlemen showed their true spirit of kindness. They rolled up their sleeves and lent a hand in cleaning up.

It's moments like these that make our community at Glenroyd Care Home truly special. We pride ourselves on fostering an environment where everyone feels valued, connected, and supported.

Let's take a moment to appreciate the gentlemen who shared their stories and created lasting memories during the barber session. Your conversation and friendship brighten our days!

Come sing! To feel Good!

What a beautiful afternoon it was at Glenroyd Care Home, where the residents soaked up the sun and enjoyed a delightful garden gathering in the midst of the Blackpool heatwave!  To make the day even more special, we joined in with a Live Virtual Event called "Come Sing! To Feel Good with Biiah" in collaboration with the incredibly talented Dan Cooper.

The theme was all about summer, and together with Biiah and Dan, we belted our hearts out to some classic summer tunes that brought back fond memories. We sang along to "The Summertime" by Mungo Jerry and grooved to "Summer Nights" from the iconic musical 'Grease'.

The joy and positive energy in the air were absolutely contagious. Our residents couldn't help but smile from ear to ear, their spirits lifted by the music and the company of their friends. A massive thank you to Biiah and Dan Cooper for leading such a fun and feel-good session. Your talents and passion truly made the event memorable for everyone involved. We appreciate you brightening our day with your beautiful voices and infectious enthusiasm!

At Glenroyd Care Home, we believe in creating enriching experiences that bring happiness and unity to our residents' lives. Gatherings like this remind us of the power of music to uplift our spirits and connect us all.
