Activities at Glenroyd Care Home

Here at the Glenroyd our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. Everyone is different and gets pleasure from different things and here at Glenroyd we understand that and therefore try to provide a programme of activity that is tailored to individuals needs. We do this by gathering information and life history work and using that information to feed into our activities schedule. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Agata Prendota

Activities Coordinator

Hi, my name is Agata Prendota and I am the activities coordinator here at Glenroyd. I have worked at Glenroyd since 2014 and in April 2022 transferred to activities. I developed a strong relationship with many of our residents and their families. This has helped me to create a tailored activities program focused on maximizing everyone’s wellbeing, independence, and social engagement.

It is my goal to create a stimulating environment that enables to provide imaginative, fun, and motivational activities that suit every interest and ability. My infectious enthusiasm and creative approach are the key to inspire our residents and staff to get involved in activities both within the home and in the local community.

I am passionate about my role and especially the challenge of coming up with new ways to engage as many residents as possible in daily activities.

Life at Glenroyd Care Home

Home goes green for St Patrick's Day

Residents and staff celebrated all things Irish for St Patrick’s Day this week. The home was decorated with shamrocks and everyone dressed in green to mark the day. Held on March 17th, Saint Patrick's Day actually observes the death of St Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland, but the day has come to be a huge celebration of Irish heritage and culture.

Staff and residents at the home marked the day by making shamrock decorations, learning some Irish words and phrases during the quiz, and having a party with live music. Head chef Ella prepared a fantastic Irish spread with traditional Irish dishes such as boiled bacon, Irish stew, and black pudding all washed down with Guinness or an Irish whiskey.

Pancake Day

What a flipping fantastic Pancake Day we had at Glenroyd!

Our residents had an absolutely delightful time celebrating Pancake Day by getting hands-on in the conservatory and whipping up their very own delicious pancakes from scratch. The joy and laughter that filled the air as they measured out ingredients, mixed the batter, and carefully flipped their pancakes was truly heart-warming to witness.

Not only did our residents get to enjoy the tasty fruits of their labour, but they also took the opportunity to learn some fascinating facts about Pancake Day and its traditions. From the history of Shrove Tuesday to the significance of indulging in pancakes before the start of Lent, our residents soaked up a wealth of knowledge while having a great time together.

The best part, of course, was savouring the mouth-watering results of their efforts. With a delightful array of toppings to choose from, including classic lemon and sugar, indulgent chocolate spread, everyone's pancake preferences were catered to. The smiles on their faces as they tucked into their personalised creations were absolutely priceless.

It's moments like these that truly capture the spirit of community and togetherness that we cherish here at Glenroyd Care Home. Seeing our residents come together, share in the joy of creating something delicious, and make precious memories is what makes our home such a special place.

Here's to many more moments of laughter, learning, and delicious treats in the days to come!

A Celebration to Remember

Recently we had a day filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories as we gathered in our beautiful conservatory to celebrate Sylvia's remarkable 94th birthday. Surrounded by her loving family and dear friends from Glenroyd, Sylvia's special day was truly one for the books.

The family went above and beyond to organise a delightful buffet, and it was heart-warming to see Sylvia's face light up as she enjoyed the company of her nearest and dearest. The atmosphere was brimming with joy and warmth as residents and guests mingled, sharing stories and creating new memories together.

As the afternoon unfolded, there was a beautiful moment as everyone raised their glasses to honour Sylvia and sang "Happy Birthday" with heartfelt sincerity. The room was filled with the sweet sounds of laughter and music, creating an ambiance of pure happiness and celebration.

Thank you to everyone who joined us in making Sylvia's 94th birthday truly unforgettable. Your presence and well wishes meant the world to her and to all of us. Let's continue to treasure these precious moments and celebrate the gift of family and friendship.

Happy 94th birthday, Sylvia! May your days continue to be filled with love, laughter, and the warmth of those who hold you dear.

Dancing Quiz

Our wonderful residents had an absolute blast as they took part in a weekly quiz with other Barchester care homes via Zoom. Despite the physical distance, our residents were able to connect, have fun, and spread joy in a way that truly exemplifies the unbreakable spirit of our community.

After the quiz, the energy and excitement continued to soar as our residents enjoyed a well-deserved glass of wine. When the music started playing, there was no stopping them as they joyfully got up on their feet and danced the afternoon away. It was a sight to behold – a true celebration of life, happiness, and togetherness.

We are especially touched by the words of one of our beloved residents, Betty, who perfectly captured the essence of the day when she said, "No one can say we don't enjoy ourselves because we do really!" Betty's spirit and enthusiasm are truly infectious, and her words resonate with the joy that fills our home each and every day.

A special thank you to Rob, the Activities Coordinator at Sutton Grange Care Home, who made this event possible and to our residents for embracing the day with such enthusiasm and love. Let's continue to treasure these beautiful moments and look forward to more heart-warming occasions in the future!

Therapy Dog Visit

Our residents had such a heart-warming visit from a therapy dog Summer, who is 9 years old and an absolute delight.

Summer's friendly and loving nature brought immense joy to our residents, as she even visited them in their bedrooms. James, one of the residents, couldn't stop raving about how lovely and beautiful Summer is. Additionally, Sheila expressed her delight at meeting a furry friend for the first time, highlighting the positive impact Summer had on everyone.

The benefits of animal therapy are truly remarkable. Studies have shown that interacting with animals can reduce feelings of loneliness and anxiety, while also promoting a sense of calmness and well-being. We are thrilled to announce that Summer will be visiting our residents every other week, providing them with consistent companionship and joy.

A massive thank you goes to Fiona for bringing so much happiness and comfort to our residents through Summer's visits. We look forward to many more heart-warming moments with Summer and are so grateful for the positive impact she has already had on our community.

Burns Day Celebrations

What a fantastic day of celebration we've had at Glenroyd Care Home on this Burns Day!

Our morning began with a delightful pamper session, where residents had the opportunity to get their nails done, engage in a creative and educational activity books, and learn fascinating new facts about the iconic Scottish poet, Robert Burns. The air was filled with the captivating sounds of Scottish music in our conservatory, which prompted our residents to reminisce about Scotland and fondly recall past celebrations.

As the day progressed into the afternoon, we were treated to a marvellous live performance by the talented singer and entertainer, Steve. The atmosphere was further enhanced by the delightful aromas and tastes of hot toddy, the sumptuousness of whiskey cake, and the traditional delight of haggis on toast. The combination of Steve's captivating music and these delightful treats made for a truly memorable and heart-warming afternoon.

The joy and camaraderie felt throughout the day were priceless, and it's moments like these that truly enrich the lives and spirits of everyone here at Glenroyd.

Here's to creating lasting memories and cherishing the vibrant spirit of community!
