Activities at Glenroyd Care Home

Here at the Glenroyd our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. Everyone is different and gets pleasure from different things and here at Glenroyd we understand that and therefore try to provide a programme of activity that is tailored to individuals needs. We do this by gathering information and life history work and using that information to feed into our activities schedule. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Agata Prendota

Activities Coordinator

Hi, my name is Agata Prendota and I am the activities coordinator here at Glenroyd. I have worked at Glenroyd since 2014 and in April 2022 transferred to activities. I developed a strong relationship with many of our residents and their families. This has helped me to create a tailored activities program focused on maximizing everyone’s wellbeing, independence, and social engagement.

It is my goal to create a stimulating environment that enables to provide imaginative, fun, and motivational activities that suit every interest and ability. My infectious enthusiasm and creative approach are the key to inspire our residents and staff to get involved in activities both within the home and in the local community.

I am passionate about my role and especially the challenge of coming up with new ways to engage as many residents as possible in daily activities.

Local children share artwork

As we often spend a lot of time in our garden going to walks, relaxing and gardening we always hear the children having lots of fun and laughter. All of our residents always say how heart-warming it is to hear happy children and how they miss seeing them weekly doing activities. The children made us lots of paintings that we sat and looked through whilst reminiscing.

Birthday celebrations

We always celebrate all birthdays however this year has been a little different during the pandemic and unfortunately not being able to be with their loved ones so we are making the most of our video calls every day but also to involve everyone’s loved ones to help celebrate. Here is George receiving a signed photo of his favourite player from rangers his smile lasted for hours and then he enjoyed to watch a rangers football game.

Crafts session

During a crafts session our residents showed us all different things you can make just from using paper, Mary showed us the paper hat that then converted into a boat and also how to make paper doylies. Anne who also joined us showed us how to make a paper Christmas tree and hedgehog using books so we have plenty of ideas for Christmas it was so much fun using something so simple.

Baking Club

Residents from Glenroyd enjoyed an afternoon of baking, which took them back to their younger years. Baking sessions are a popular group activity for the home and the activity had taste buds tingling as the aroma of freshly baked sultana scones wafted through the home.

Chelsea Boyd, activities coordinator, said: “The residents enjoy spending time in the kitchen, as it not only brings back memories of their childhood, but also times when they’ve baked with their own children and grandchildren. Once all the bakes were made, we all enjoyed sitting down with a cup of tea and a home-made cake.”

Home celebrates Balloon Fiesta

Glenroyd care home in Blackpool celebrated the recent Bristol International Balloon fiesta with an afternoon garden tea party with music and dancing and also held a balloon release to remember those lost during the coronavirus pandemic.

Residents and staff all got involved with the spirit of the balloon fiesta and released over 100 colourful bio degradable balloons into the sky for the balloon race to begin. A special ticket was placed on each balloon with the homes address along with a special message on each one from individual residents before staff and residents released them into the sky.

Long awaited reunions

For some residents at Glenroyd care home in Blackpool, the long awaited reunion with family and friends became a reality recently, as garden visits have now been allowed to commence at the home.

It was welcome news to so many residents, family, and friends, who were kept apart for so long following strict government guidance. Residents and their loved ones got together in the home garden for quality time with their family, and the garden was fully of joy and chatter.

Judith Edmondson, General Manager at the home, said: “This has been a much welcomed development in what have been very strange times. The visits are safe and organised, and it was wonderful to see how happy it made the residents. We will of course endeavour to keep up the high standards of care, and continue with our ever evolving life enrichment programme, to keep residents engaged. But this was a lovely day.”
