Activities at Glebefields Care Home

Yesterday, we had a great time celebrating International Men's Day with treats and games. Our senior resident Ray took the lead in cutting the cake and Deputy Manager shared the history and theme of International Men's Day, explaining why it's important this year.

She sent warm wishes to all the great men, making it a day full of togetherness and happiness! After cutting the cake and having meaningful talks, everyone had a lot of fun with puzzles and word games. It was a fantastic way to keep the celebration going, adding joy and laughter to the day.

Poppy the delightful PAT dog visited today, they went around to say hi to everyone, and Poppy's tail was wagging non-stop. It was a happy day!

Marlene had a big smile with Poppy, and there's a nice photo of them together. Marjorie and Sheila shared biscuits with Poppy, making friends with our furry visitor. Pete was super excited and gave Poppy a big hug. Poppy seemed really happy sitting on Pete's lap. We all had big smiles and had a really nice day.

In the week we celebrated the King's birthday, Fiona Harrison gave us a wonderful musical experience. She sang heartfelt songs from the war, and it really touched our residents. The music created a special connection, making memories that touched our hearts.

Remembrance Sunday service, led by Reverend Alicia Baker, was a touching tribute to our heroes. Residents and staff gathered in unity, offering prayers that echoed with gratitude for the sacrifices made by our brave soldiers. At the solemn stroke of 11 o'clock, a collective hush enveloped the room for a poignant 2-minute silence, a powerful act of remembrance.

In those quiet moments, we remembered the old soldiers, their stories, and the profound impact of their service on our lives. The poppies on our lapels stood as a symbol of respect and honour. Together, we stood as a community, united in our remembrance. Lest we forget.

Tom and Ray stood tall amidst the solemnity of the Remembrance Day parade in Banbury town, finding deep enjoyment in the poignant event. As the clock struck 11, the entire town fell into 2 minutes of profound silence, a powerful moment of unity in honour of those who made the ultimate sacrifice. The atmosphere was charged with gratitude and reflexion.

Post-parade, St. Mary's Church Banbury welcomed us for a moving Remembrance Day service, a testament to the enduring spirit of community and remembrance. Our hearts swell with pride for our heroes, and the inspiring presence of Tom and Ray adds an extra layer of meaning to this sacred occasion. Lest we forget.

Today at Glebefields we marked the start of the Hindu festival of Diwali, popularly known as the ‘festival of lights’ with a fashion show from staff in traditional dress; ladies brightly coloured sarees and gentlemen's kurta.

Admin Assistant Shilpa started the celebration by giving our residents and guests the background story to ‘Lakshmi’ the goddess of wealth and symbol of prosperity.

Shilpa explained the story highlights the good fortune and success that Lakshmi bestows upon those who work hard and seek help sincerely. It also demonstrates that during times of success, one must never become complacent or arrogant, as success has a way of getting away from people.

Staff members Ashitha, Tincy and Shilpa helped decorate the lounge with colourful patterned rangoli and diyas, marigold flowers, garlands and candles which are lit to signify the triumph of good over evil.

Head chef Bose Jose and the hospitality team prepared a verity of traditional Indian dishes with a range of spicy samosas, crispy onion bhajis and plenty of Indian sweets treats including barfi and milk pedas for the whole home to enjoy.

Marjorie and Edith, residents at Glebefields commented: “We love all of the different cultural events that are celebrated here, there’s always something going on. We especially like the religious festivals from other cultures and sampling the wonderful food.”

General Manager, Nisha Shaji said: “To celebrate Diwali at the home was fantastic, the colourful glow of the lamps created a very wonderful atmosphere and our chef made the most delicious dishes – everyone had a fantastic time.”
