Activities at Glebefields Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience, and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Virtual demonstration Spooky Creations

In preparation for our Halloween celebrations we were treated to an interactive virtual cookery demonstration courtesy of one of Barchester’s Hospitality Trainers, Joy Whitlock. Head chef Bose Jacob had prepared lots of cupcakes, biscuits and cookies in advance so that residents could not only sample the wares, but have a go at creating and decorating their own with icing, fondant, edible baubles and glitter.

As they watched Joy, and supported by activities; Kay our residents; Marlene, Pam, Ivy and Brian had a spooktastic time decorating chocolate cupcakes with their own crafted fondant eyes, skulls and spiders. Taking inspiration from Joy they loved creating their own terrifying severed shortbread fingers - fully getting into the Halloween spirit!

General Manager, Nisha Shaji said: “Our residents love sweet treats so Joy’s designs went down a storm here! It was brilliant that our residents were able to sample the cakes and biscuits and follow along with Joy as she decorated them so cleverly. It was such a lovely afternoon, we can’t thank Joy enough.”

Joy said “It was an absolute pleasure to be able to show the residents how to decorate their own cupcakes and cookies with some ghoulish Halloween designs! Thanks to all the chefs in our homes across the country who supported me to deliver this really lovely activity.” Happy Halloween everyone - we've got our ghoulish shortbread fingers crossed our spooky designs will win the #BarchesterHalloween competition.

Trip to Antiques Centre

A delightful day out! Our residents Ivy, Pam, and Sheila, along with our staff, enjoyed a trip to Banbury Antiques Centre. Sheila even brought along her cherished teddy bear. We had a fantastic time exploring unique treasures, and Sheila purchased a one-of-a-kind Japanese ceramic cat, which added to the excitement. Everyone had a great time shopping for special finds.

After our shopping adventure, we gathered at the café for a lovely tea and coffee. The joy on everyone's faces was truly heart-warming. It's moments like these that make life even more beautiful.

Breast Cancer Awareness Day

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, a chance for people to Wear It Pink and get involved in raising funds. At Glebefields staff and residents spent time baking and decorating beautiful pink inspired cakes of all shapes and sizes for their bake sale and hand crafted ribbons for people to wear to show their support. Sadly, we all know someone affected by breast cancer - over 55,000 people are diagnosed with the disease each year. On Wear it Pink day (20/10/23) we did just that Glebefields was a parade of pink!

General Manager, Nisha Shaji said: “Breast cancer is a cause close to many of our staff and residents’ hearts so everyone was keen to take part in fundraising activities and do their bit. We are proud to donate the money we raise to help fund research and try to make a difference.”
