Activities at Fairview House Care Home

Our Activities Coordinators create a weekly planner that consists of a variety of activities, which caters to all residents' needs as best as possible. The most popular activities are bingo, which we host twice a week, flower arranging and weekly visits from Vinnie our pet therapy dog. Residents also enjoy minibus trips in the nicer weather and we attend a concert every month. We are also involved in the Council Well-being Team, which keeps us up-to date with upcoming events within the community and provides interesting ideas for activities we can try in the home.

Throughout the year, we host various special events, including themed open days and summer and winter fetes that people in our local communities are welcome to join us for. We also have monthly church services with Rev. Ann from Danestone Congregational Church, which is open to loved ones as well.

Life at Fairview House Care Home

Residents Enjoyed a Game of Bingo

Fairview is home to some keen bingo players and regularly meet for this popular activity. Bingo is one of the many games featured in the homes activities programme as are great for bringing residents together to increases socialisation and once together conversation flows regarding their own memories of visiting the bingo halls.

As residents gathered in the lounge excitedly and ready for the game of bingo, team members handed out cards, colourful counters and brought through the Bingo Cage filled with all the numbered ball out, it soon encouraged reminiscence, as manual systems like this were used when the residents visited bingo halls in the 50s/60s.

It was all calm in the room, but as soon as the first ball was called, there was a feeling of friendly competition in the air.

Residents Attended Drama Class

Residents of Fairview have joined a project alongside St Machar Academy and were one of the first groups to visit and attend one of the academy’s drama classes. There was no stage fright for our residents as they soon joined in and became involved in the lesson. The aim of the project is to allow different generations to experiences together. The first session took place in January and the home hopes to continue attend and offering new experiences to Residents.

The trip was a great success and General Manager, Arlene Campbell said “We all enjoyed this intergenerational event and it was a delight to see our Residents and the students interacting, sharing stories and participating in the lesson together. We had so much fun that we’re looking to continue this link as a regular feature in our social calendar”.

Residents Enjoy Pamper Session

Residents at Fairview enjoyed a relaxing pamper session as they received a beautiful manicure. The home pampered the residents by painting their nails. Residents chose their favourite colours from the nail varnishes, including blue, red, purple and some sparkly shades.

Residents thoroughly enjoyed the pamper session, with many commenting on how they used to enjoy painting their nails when they were younger. One resident commented how nice it was to sit back, relax, enjoy a pot of tea with some biscuits and cakes as the relaxing music was played in the background.

Residents Had ‘Fang-Tastic’ Time

Residents, relatives and friends of Fairview along with staff had a ‘fang-tastic’ time as they hosted their popular annual Halloween party with live entertainment. As part of the celebrations the home held a ‘best witch’ and best costume competition which was judged by the residents.

The competition was tough and the overall winner was carer, Dana who had dressed for the occasion as a boxer. It was a fun-filled afternoon and conversation throughout brought back their own childhood memories of carving pumpkins, turnips and trick or treating!

Taking the Salute , Taking the Salute

Taking the Salute

Resident, Sandy Cortman, is one of the original surviving paratroopers from the battle of Arnhem, World War II.

Sandy has been unrecognised until recently, when he received an invitation from the Duke of Wales and from the Parachute regiment to become a part of the 75th anniversary of the battle, as part of Armed Forces Day. Our star was transported in a WW2 jeep to the parade, before the show at Gordon Bks, where he was asked to "Take The Salute".
