Activities at The Dales Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Kay Thompson

Activities Coordinator

Hi, my name is Kay and I am the activities coordinator here at the Dales.  I joined the team in June 2021 and I love spending time with the residents each day, delivering meaningful activities that keep our residents active and social stimulated, more importantly we have fun!  Our life enrichment programme is varied and we have lots to do!

Before I joined the home I was a lecturer teaching young individuals with high needs, it is very different being an activities coordinator but it does help with understand how to ensure everyone is happy each and every day in everything that we do.

I look forward to meeting you when you visit our home.

Life at The Dales Care Home

Keeping active

Here at The Dales Care Home we are very focused on our activities as we recognize the importance of exercise for our residents. Residents here enjoyed a game of bowling pins and competed who could knock the most over! This small game of bowls is great for gentle arm exercises as well as a great opportunity to have some fun with other residents and make new friends!

Music melody

Residents showed off their musical side, as one of our very own residents Julia played the keyboard for us. Julia has been playing the keyboard for over 30 years and loves for everyone to sing along to her tunes. We have several residents here at The Dales who play musical instruments, and love to hear one another play in the home.

Pomtastic morning

Residents of the Dales got creative making their very own pom poms to decorate around their rooms. Using a variety of different coloured wools they wrapped the wool to create the pom pom in different sizes. Residents really enjoy the creative making sessions; no two are ever the same and there’s definitely something for everyone to enjoy here at The Dales.

A 'fruitastic' morning

Residents at the Dales enjoyed a fruity afternoon as they came together to make their very own nutritious smoothies for their afternoon refreshments.  It was an enjoyable afternoon for everyone as they discussed their favourite fruits and remarked on the wonderful colours. Residents selected their favourite fruits and juices to create the best flavours!

Church and chatter mornings

Every Friday here at The Dales we hold our weekly Church & Chatter morning in which our resident Joan and activities coordinator Meg run together. This is a morning of singing, reading and have a good cuppa! The residents look forward to our weekly church service and this really brings our home together as a family.

Garden reunions

As the government is gradually easing lockdown restrictions, Barchester Healthcare has announced a way forward to bring everyone together again after the recent enforced separation. It’s been a ray of sunshine for those desperate to see their loved ones. Residents here at the Dales have been able to meet members of their family in person, with our socially distanced garden visits for our residents' family and friends to bring them together once again.
