Activities at The Dales Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Kay Thompson

Activities Coordinator

Hi, my name is Kay and I am the activities coordinator here at the Dales.  I joined the team in June 2021 and I love spending time with the residents each day, delivering meaningful activities that keep our residents active and social stimulated, more importantly we have fun!  Our life enrichment programme is varied and we have lots to do!

Before I joined the home I was a lecturer teaching young individuals with high needs, it is very different being an activities coordinator but it does help with understand how to ensure everyone is happy each and every day in everything that we do.

I look forward to meeting you when you visit our home.

Life at The Dales Care Home

Sharing the love for Valentines

Here at the Dales we are preparing to share the love as Valentine's Day approaches, we have been busy enjoying an arts and crafts session where we have been creating cards to send to our loved ones.

Keeping active

Exercising the body & mind - Keeping active, having social interactions and being mentally stimulated is very important to Residents at The Dales.   Today was a fun-filled game of beach ball volley!

Every got really competitive, everyone wanted to beat each other and Residents really got into the event.   The home said “Ball exercise is good for Residents wellbeing as it helps with their hand eye coordination and is a good arm exercise to keep them muscles working.”

Therapy Dolls

Residents enjoy doll therapy at The Dales and have been spending some quality time with their therapy dolls who resemble newborn babies. Roisin Doyle, General Manager said: “The dolls are greatly loved by all of the residents and give a nice sense of belonging and peacefulness in the home and it is great so see our residents interacting with them”

Staff and residents amongst first to receive vaccine

Staff and residents at Barchester’s The Dales care home, in Draughton, were delighted to be invited to have the vaccination at the home, which has lifted everyone’s spirits after what has been a very challenging year for everyone.

General Manager, Roisin Doyle said: “Last year was a year like no other and the vaccine feels like the light at the end of the tunnel.  Our teams have been magnificent in how they have risen to every challenge during this pandemic and we are proud to play our part in this next phase to ensure the most vulnerable are protected.”

New visiting suite brings joy!

Residents are overjoyed as Barchester Healthcare has implemented a visiting suite for residents to continue to spend time with their loved ones for the autumn and winter seasons in addition to the outdoor visiting that has been on offer for those able for many months.

It was welcome news for their residents and family and friends as we enter the colder season meaning catch-ups can continue to take place, instead of, or in addition to, outdoor visiting already offered for those able.

The visiting suite has been designed with both comfort and safety in mind, and has been recently adapted from a room which is accessible internally by residents and externally by visitors.

Residents enjoy virtual exercise with community friends

The Dales care home in Draughton, Skipton have invited residents to shape up during the second coronavirus lockdown with regular virtual seated exercise and mobility classes.

Fitness instructors from ‘Medau’ have been leading the sessions virtually with staff and residents of the Barchester Healthcare home, as well as local residents joining in virtually from the comfort of their own homes.

Activities Coordinator, Megan Haigh said “Laughing is the best medicine and it’s great to make fitness fun for everyone! Sitting in the comfort of their chair throughout the session people don’t realize they are working out and improving health and mobility.”
