Activities at Corrina Lodge Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Activities Coordinator

Hi, my name is Sharon, and I'm part of the activities team here at Corrina Lodge and have worked here for over 20 years. I thoroughly enjoy my job and have achieved an NVQ Level 3 in Activities whilst working here. During my time here, I have met some truly amazing people and I feel privileged to work in a home with such a sense of community.

Life at Corrina Lodge Care Home

VE Day Celebrations

Residents and staff at Corrina Lodge joined together to celebrate this year’s very special 75th VE Day Anniversary, which somehow seemed even more poignant in these current times.

There was singing, laughter and reminiscing for many of the residents. We had also arranged for an entertainer to compile a special VE Day DVD for residents to enjoy, which contained some VE Day memories, songs and some special messages from residents family and friends, which had been edited in.

Pictured is Glenys enjoying our traditional street party lunch and keeping the flag flying!

A wonderful time was had by all!

Over the Rainbow

Residents and staff at Corrina Lodge enjoyed working together on an art project to create a wonderful rainbow. The creative sessions encouraged a sense of community, with lots of laughter and fun throughout.

The finished piece of art shared a message of hope, unity and joy, which is now being displayed in our upstairs window. We hope the wider community and people passing by enjoy our rainbow.

Sharing Photos

Residents at Corrina Lodge really enjoyed a photo sharing session with their fellow residents. It was really interesting to hear about the memories and stories behind the photos, and a great opportunity to continue getting to know each other. We are planning to have more of these sessions and encourage staff team members to join in. We may be having to physically adhere to social distancing, but we are certainly remaining very much in touch emotionally.

Photos shared told tales of a young man driving a tractor, a young girl's passion for horses and visiting the stables, a very special birthday celebration with family and a proud husband sharing a photo of his lovely wife.

The Sun is Shining

Residents thoroughly enjoyed the warmth of the sun in our lovely garden at this morning’s Well-being Session. We all felt it was exactly the right time to venture into the garden and make the most of the wonderful weather.

Residents are invited to attend a weekly session, where we do guided relaxation together. Most recently, we took a woodland walk and talked about ways to improve and maintain our general physical and mental health.

Residents are encouraged to share their ideas and knowledge at the classes, and one of our lovely admin team has kindly offered to share some of the exercises and  benefits of pilates at one of our future sessions, which we are all looking forward to.

Donkey Visit

One of our wonderful residents at Corrina Lodge recently enjoyed a visit from a miniature donkey and her foal. The pair made their way upstairs in our lift and appeared very comfortable with the situation.

The donkeys are part of an amazing charity called  Animal Touch, which is linked with Millers Ark Animals, and give people who may not otherwise have the opportunity a chance to spend time with some of their lovely animals. Once the donkeys had visited the special lady in question, they went on to say hello to a few more of the Corrina Community.

Special Birthday Celebration

Mrs Margaret Gibson celebrated her 100th Birthday this month. She was joined by her lovely family for this very special milestone. Margaret thoroughly enjoyed being serenaded by entertainer Richard Radcliffe with her family, fellow residents and staff surrounding her. She proudly held her beautifully newly framed telegram from the Queen.

The activities team at Corrina Lodge have also recently joined a group called Postcards of Kindness. We were able to add Corrina Lodges address to this fantastic group, where people are able to choose to write and send postcards to your residents collectively at your care home. So far with have had some wonderful cards from all over the country. We  have now formed our very own Pen Pal group and will be replying to some of these wonderful people. There are also opportunities to write to other care home communities, which is great!

One of the other really good bonuses of this group is ‘The 100 Club’, which is for people celebrating this special milestone. We were given permission to add the lovely Margaret’s name and she received over 30 amazing cards. Margaret was absolutely thrilled and said ‘all these are for me?’.

Margaret certainly celebrated in style!
