Activities at Corrina Lodge Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Luigi, a talented pup-star

When singing sensation 'Daniel Brewerton' (a firm favourite, back by popular demand) recently visited our home to entertain residents with his 'Rat Pack' repertoire, he was accompanied by his canine pal, puppy Luigi much to the enjoyment of everyone. During his visit, his faultless performance included popular songs from all-time favourites such as Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin. Daniel also popped into say a special hello to some of our residents who were unable to attend the show. Cuddles with cute little Luigi (who was so well behaved) bought smiles to all and really made their day.

Garden Cinema under the stars

The Corrina Lodge Community shared an absolutely wonderful evening under the stars enjoying the upbeat musical comedy 'Hairspray' with  the My Garden Cinema Experience.

We were blessed with a warm early autumn evening and a beautifully clear starlit evening to spend some movie time together and enjoy some traditional cinema treats.

Annual Community Dog Show

We had an absolutely wonderful time at our annual Dog Show. The weather was glorious and we had a fantastic turn out of over 35 canine pals who were all so beautiful and well behaved.

We were so pleased to welcome Regan from Next Chapter Animal Rescue and

Hannah Forrest and Nicky from Dingley Dell Dog Training and Agility Hannah Forrest, who judged our event.

Dogs were entered into 10 different classes where 1st, 2nd and 3rd placed all received rosettes and wonderful prizes kindly donated by Next Chapter Animal Rescue. We are pleased to announce that we raised an incredible £120 from our entries which is all going to Next Chapter Animal Rescue in support of all the important work they do in re-homing unwanted and neglected animals.

Residents Jackie and Margaret also assisted with the judging, presenting their own ‘Resident Awards’. The joy of animals around the home has such a positive impact on our residents. They all had such a wonderful day. Resident Bill said ‘it was truly magic’ and resident Jackie said ‘it was an absolutely wonderful day’.

Celebrating World Photography Day

We’ve had a wonderful day welcoming everyone into our lovely home today for our Open Day in celebration of ‘World Photo Day’. Staff, residents and their families joined together for some beautiful memorable family portraits to treasure. We also reminisced with residents’ favourite photo’s, which hold fond memories for them and chatted about the history of the camera. The sun even came back out for us. A wonderful day capturing precious memories.

Dream Come True

Resident Pip’s dream come true was granted when the team here at Corrina, along with help from the local community, made it possible for her to attend the Vow Renewal Ceremony for her son and daughter-in-law.

Pip was given a five star treatment which started off with a cut and blow dry by Junie Heather, who stepped in at the last minute to make Pip look a million dollars. Activities Assistant Rosie, did Pip’s nails and make-up according to her taste and to match her gorgeous outfit that Pip had chosen herself, which the care team had helped coordinate. Nurse Celeste chaperoned Pip to the ceremony, chauffeured by our very own Head of Maintenance, Hamid.

Pip had such a wonderful time. Being able to share in such an important family event meant so much to her. Pip wishes to express her heartfelt thanks and gratitude to all who made this possible and said she is overwhelmed by the kindness and effort taken by all to make this day possible for her. She will hold these memories so dear to her heart.

We would like to wish a huge congratulations to the happy couple and extend our gratitude to all who made this possible for her. We really do have a wonderful community.

The Onslow Arms Revisited

David, our resident and former Head Chef at The Onslow Arms, Clandon, was treated to an absolutely wonderful surprise back to his former place of work where he ran the kitchen for many years.

David often reminisces to staff about his culinary days, especially his time at The Onslow Arms, where he holds many happy memories. David expressed a wish to be back in the kitchen and so the Activities Team, with the help of Head Chef Kathleen set about making this dream come true.

Not only was David treated to a delicious fish and chips lunch, he was also given a personal tour of his old kitchen by Head Chef Colin. If this wasn’t enough, Amy, Deputy Manager had got in touch with David’s former friend and colleague Alan Peck, who owned the Onslow Arms from 1969-2001, David met Alan in the chef industry and they spent many happy years training and working together here, brushing shoulders with the rich and famous. David was absolutely thrilled to reconnect with Alan again after all these years and they spent time laughing and reminiscing together.

We would like to offer our heartfelt gratitude to all the staff at The Onslow Arms, who went above and beyond to ensure David had a day to remember. The hospitality and kindness shown to make this dream a reality for David meant the world to him. David said, ‘It’s a day I won’t ever forget, what a lovely surprise. I thoroughly enjoyed it and I can’t thank you all enough’.
