Activities at Chater Lodge Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Maria Durrant

Activities Coordinator

Hello. I am Maria and I have lived in Ketton for most of my life. I worked at the local primary school before joining Chater Lodge in 2019. My first role here was as a Dining Host and have now found my passion in creating an interesting and inclusive programme of activities for all our residents. I like having fun with residents, dressing up, singing songs and celebrating special events. I love being a part of the team here and my career change to Activities Coordinator is the best thing I have ever done.

Life at Chater Lodge Care Home

A new family in the garden

We love doing a bit of bird spotting in our accessible garden here at Chater Lodge, and a new little family has taken up residence in our shrubbery. We are waiting to find out exactly what they are.

Village Hero collects his prize

At Chater Lodge we are definitely part of Ketton village life and we wanted to acknowledge the people that make the village such a special community. So, Chater Lodge has set up a monthly Village Hero award and our first winner was Jamie Betts, Landlord of The Railway Inn. Jamie jumped on his bike during lockdown to deliver beer and make sure people were ok. He visited Chater Lodge recently to meet staff and residents, and collect his Village Hero prize of a signed shirt and football kindly donated by The Posh, Peterborough United Football Club. His prizes are now on display at the Railway Inn.

Games in the garden

George and Peter have been enjoying the sunshine and playing board games in the garden while they catch up with each other's news.

A celebration shared with The Queen

Chater Lodge surprised some neighbours recently when staff realised they all lived next door to each other and shared the same birthday as the Queen, 21st April. Zoe and Maria from our home, delivered bouquets of flowers to Alison and Lena, and a cute cuddly toy to three-year-old Millie. Chater Lodge is connected to lots of people in Ketton and the surrounding area and we like to support the community when we can. It was lovely to treat these three ladies.

Anyone for Ker-plunk?

Maria, our Activities Coordinator, never ceases to amaze us with her ideas and creativity. She recently made this giant Ker-plunk game in her spare time and it has been enjoyed many times already by residents at Chater Lodge. We also have other large games including Connect 4, Dominoes and Snakes & Ladders. We look forward to outdoor games as soon as we get some dry days.

Memories of retro sweets

Thank you to Emma and Izzy from Delicious Ideas who kindly donated some sweets for residents and staff at Chater Lodge to enjoy. The box of goodies includes Sherbert Lemons, Jelly Babies and lots of other favourites. Yummy!
