Activities at Challoner House Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life. Our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Life at Challoner House Care Home

Make a new friend Day

Residents and staff at Challoner House Nursing Home in Chandlers Ford had a blast celebrating Make A New Friend Day on February 8th. There were smiles all round as the home welcomed staff and residents from Shawford Springs Care home to join them for their live entertainment morning.

Make A New Friend Day is celebrated nationally to bring people together by encouraging the sharing of life stories, experiences and hobbies with the goal of creating connections through common interests.

Staff and residents from both homes spent time singing along to the performance of wonderful local singer, Sarah Hobbs. Everyone enjoyed some lovely home-made pastries and cookies baked by the talented head chef at Challoner House, washed down with lots of tea and coffee.

Pat, a resident at Challoner House, commented: “We’ve had such a lovely morning.  It has been wonderful to meet new people and have a lovely sing along.

St Davids Day

Here at Challoner House oure residents enjoyed celebrating St David's Day with what started off as making some lovely daffodils to creating lots of colourful flowers, it was a great chance to get creative as well as the craft being good for our dexterity. We are also very thankful to Jen our local MND volunteer who came in today to spend some quality time in the garden planting daffodils with one of our lovely resident's in the one sunny spot of the garden.

Bingo Bonanza

We’ve linked up with all Barchester care homes and hospitals across the country for Barchester’s Bingo Bonanza. Our residents were treated to some exciting virtual games of Bingo as part of Barchester’ very own game show series. Everyone really enjoyed the experience and can't wait for the next game.

Knit and Natter

The Residents and Staff at Challoner House have recently started up a weekly in house Knit and Natter session, We have started knitting squares for local Neonatal units.

Alongside our weekly in house sessions we will also be opening our doors for the local community to join us on the second Tuesday of every month starting on 12th March, where some lovely refreshments will also be provided.

We find that our Knitting and Nattering sessions are not only good for our dexterity, creativity but it gives us time to reminisce and get to know each other a little more.
