Activities at Challoner House Care Home
Our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.
Read our brochure 'Life-enriching activities' for more information about life in our care homes.

Dementia Talk
The Residents, Staff and Relatives all really enjoyed an informative talk from Guest Speaker Helen Browne, Helen is a member of the Dementia Association. Helen came in for the afternoon and gave us a wonderful talk about the different types of dementia, how if effects the people living with dementia and how we can support those living with dementia, Helen also spoke to us all about how we can support the family’s that have loved ones living with dementia. Helen brought with her many leaflets and guides to share, The residents have said that these talks are so important so we can all learn how to live with and support those around us.
Super Scrabble
The residents always love a game of Scrabble, In the sunny days it is really lovely to sit in our garden room and enjoy the game with some nice refreshments, Scrabble is always a bit hit with the residents as they say it keeps their brain active as well as bringing out their competitive side. Scrabble and other board games are always available to our residents and families to enjoy at any time of day and can be found in the communal areas of the home.
Art Classes
The residents at Challoner house have been enjoying starting up a new art class, we are holding these classes every fortnight and try out new styles of art each class, so far the residents have enjoyed a still life drawing class, a flower arranging class and cue tip painting class, they have all gone down really well and thoroughly enjoyed by all, the favourite class so far has defiantly been the flower arranging class.
Easter at Challoner House
Here at Challoner House the residents had so much fun doing their own version of a Easter egg hunt with lots of clues and lots of smiles they all got to enjoy some lovely hot cross buns on the tea trolley to eat and on Easter Sunday all the residents got their own Easter eggs , We were also lucky to receive a basket of mini eggs from our local church so a special thank you for that lovely surprise the residents really enjoyed their Easter here at Challoner house.
Mind, Body and Soul
The activities at Challoner house are always really focus on our Mind, Body and Soul, sometimes we try and incorporate all three elements into one activity. This week we had a lovely session in the garden room talking about all the lovely flowers and wildlife we could see, We then followed the session with some gentle armchair exercises and finishing off we gentle and relaxing breathing techniques, it was a beautiful session that left us all feeling really good.
