Activities at Bloomfield Care Centre

We host a wide range of activities and events here for residents to stimulate them both physically and mentally. Relatives can often be found taking part; for example, they will some times join us on minibus trips and to enjoy entertainers and musical events. There is regular involvement from the local community, with ministers holding services for us weekly, visits from our PAT dog, and a good volunteer network. Additionally, we have recently opened a Dementia Café, which is held on the fourth Tuesday of every month. Activities are an essential part of residents' lives, so we strive to keep them active with a focus on what they can achieve and that life here is fun.

Cathy Jallow

Activities Coordinator

Hello, My name is Cathy and I am the Activities Coordinator at Bloomfield care centre.

I joined the team here at Bloomfield in August 2017 as carer and have since moved into Activities.

The Activities role is varied and one which allows me to plan amazing activities for our residents to ensure their days are filled with lots of fun, laughter and social interaction.

I am always looking for new activity ideas as well as new places to visit, so please give me a call to discuss our life enrichment programme further.

Life at Bloomfield Care Centre

Remembrance Day Celebrations

At Bloomfield we always celebrate Remembrance Day and support those who wish to attend the local town parade.

Our talented residents have created a number of Remembrance Day artworks to display around the home, and our staff have been taking extra time to discuss the memories that this time of year invokes.

Firework Night

Remember remember the fifth of November, gunpowder, treason and plot!

Our fireworks night was a huge success with residents and families enjoying the display along with hot chocolate and sweet treats.

Little Stars Nursery Visits

We love it when Little Stars Nursery come to visit. Our residents enjoy interacting with the cheeky but adorable toddlers and the little ones certainly seem to make the most of the attention!

Intergenerational interaction has been proven to have huge benefits for both parties and so we have schools, colleges and nurseries visiting on a regular basis.

Looking Sharp Gentlemen

Our gentlemen residents are looking very sharo today after a visit from our local barber Luke.

Stylish haircuts and fresh shaves were the order of the day with the gentlemen lining up to look their best. Plenty of chat and jokes were shared as the hair salon was transformed into a male-dominated area for the day.

When you look your best, you feel your best which is why all Barchester Healthcare homes have a beauty salon built into them.

Indoor Bowls Competition

This week some of our residents visited a Barchester sister home to compete in their indoor bowls competition.

Barchester's The Wingfield Care Centre was kind enough to host the competition with their competition-sized bowls equipment. Our residents did themselves proud and upheld the honour of the home with their skills and we are looking forward to a return visit soon.

Good Rating

Bloomfield passed a recent Care Quality Commission inspection with an overall “Good” rating after being praised for a responsive, safe, effective, caring and well-led service.

The CQC inspected the home in July (the report was released in August) and rated the home as “Good” overall.

The report stated that the home was managing the care and safety of the residents well and rated the registered manager as Good, with one healthcare professional stating "Jing has a very good professional relationship with the staff. The new deputy manager is also very keen to drive up standards as well. For me, this feels like the most positive period the home has been in."

The report, which was partly based on interviews with 25 residents, 8 relatives, over a dozen staff and outside healthcare professionals went on to quote residents who said “Staff are kind and gentle and not rushed.”

Also highlighted in the report was the fact that “People were supported to maintain relationships with relatives and friends, we observed people enjoying time with visitors on both days of our inspection”.
