Activities at Beeston View Memory Lane Community

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Luisa Painemilla

Activities Coordinator

Hi there, I'm Luisa, Activities Co-ordinator at Iddenshall Hall.

I have worked with the elderly over 8 years and also for fifteen years in the social field as an Activities Coordinator for different social groups in three countries. I have a Degree in Social Integration, a Certificate in Theatrical Psychology and a Music Therapy certificate. In the past I have worked for local authorities and in a cerebral palsy home.

My work is very rewarding and it is a pleasure planning events and activities each month. I enjoy interacting with Residents and learning about their interests, preferences and experiences.

Look out for our activities and events - you are welcome to join us!

V&A Ocean Liners talk

Staff and residents at Barchester’s Iddenshall Hall and Beeston View were treated to a photographic tour and talk about the era of ocean travel by V&A Dundee Curator, Charlotte Hale.  The presentation forms part of a series of six talks and virtual tours that V&A Dundee is hosting for Barchester Healthcare’s care homes and private hospitals across the UK.

V&A Dundee is Scotland’s design museum, it showcases Scotland’s outstanding design achievements and features world-class exhibitions alongside the permanent Scottish Design Galleries, and a changing programme of commissions, events and activities.

National Vegetarian Week

To celebrate National Vegetarian Week, staff and residents at Barchester’s Iddenshall Hall and Beeston View in Clotton were treated to an interactive virtual cookery demo courtesy of chef, Alex Connell, from Vegetarian for Life.

Chef Alex whipped up some tasty, healthy vegetarian snacks in a live, interactive cookery demo.  Much to residents’ delight, the homes hospitality team had prepared the same recipes so that residents could try all the dishes. Residents sampled delicious, light and summery veggie dishes including Borlotti bean and dill pate, Greek fritters with Tzatziki and Coronation 'chicken' pastries. All finished off with a sweet and simple but totally yummy banana bread.

Virtual exercise with the green goddess

Staff and residents at Barchester’s Iddenshall Hall and Beeston View in Clotton were treated to an armchair work out courtesy of the Green Goddess, Diana Moran, and Shackleton’s furniture company, followed by a mindfulness session led by Shackleton’s Emma Raybould.

Diana rose to fame as a glamorous fitness guru on BBC’s Breakfast Time in the 1980’s and has made an outstanding contribution to improving the health and wellbeing of people in the UK. She now brings that experience to Shackletons as their Health and Wellness Adviser.

National Garden Week

Residents at Iddenshall Hall used their green fingers as they marked National Gardening Week by encouraging residents to work together to spruce up their outdoor space.  Residents love to care for the homes plants and outdoor space, during the course of the week they have watched YouTube to explore how to care for specific plants, looked at gardening magazines and changed soil to some plants.  The activity created a lot of comments on how they had cared, designed and managed their own gardens!

Blooming marvelous

Today the sun may not have been shining but this did not stop Residents  on our Beeston View community thinking about the long hot days in the garden as they prepared their hanging baskets with colourful floral displays.   It was a very busy and productive time planting and everyone is looking forward to the warmer weather so that they can sit outdoors and enjoy when they are in full bloom!

Guess the object!

To celebrate International Guide Dog Day, the Residents of Beeston View played a game of ‘Guess the Object, by touch only.’ This involved feeling. identifying and naming all sorts of different weird and wonderful objects concealed in a bag. The Residents really enjoyed the challenge and managed to identify nearly all of the objects although the giant fir cone caused lots of laughter and  had most of them stumped!
