Activities at Wimborne Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Zoe Freeman

Lead Activities Coordinator

I have been working in care since 2019 and love the industry. I came from working on cruise ships and running events and activities there which has set me up to be a successful activities coordinator in care. You will never see me without a smile on my face and always bring my fun and bubbly personality to my job. My favourite part of my job is making people cheerful  and help make their wishes come true to show people that age is just a number and we can have fun no matter what!

PAT Dog Visit

This month we had our first visit from our PAT dog Rufus! He is a Briard, which makes him very big and fluffy. Our residents absolutely loved having him come in to sit with them, giving them a chance to have a cuddle and some much needed animal companionship. They’ll even be able to watch him in the Crufts Dog show next year! Our residents all can’t wait to see him again!

Scrabble

We’ve also really enjoyed Scrabble Club this month! It puts our brains to the test and gives our residents a great chance to socialise, quarrel over what’s really in the Scrabble Dictionary and overall have some great fun! It’s an integral part of our activity programme here at Wimborne and is always a great hit!

Quiz Night

Also this month, we’ve been putting our knowledge to the test with our Quiz afternoons! We celebrated National New York day by seeing how much we really knew about The Big Apple and learning some crazy facts about the city that never sleeps. It was a really lovely way to get together, reminisce with some travel stories and get just a little bit competitive!

Singing!

This month has been all about SINGING! We started off our month with the very talented Rustyn George playing for us and getting us dancing first thing in the morning! Our residents here at Wimborne absolutely adore music, it brings them so much joy. We have a few very talented singers amongst us and we have regularly been getting together in our Community Choir to sing some of our all-time favourites, from Elvis to the Beatles, and even trying to find our way to Amarillo, we have thoroughly enjoyed getting the karaoke machine out and sharing in our love of music.

Gardening

This summer the residents have been out in the garden getting their hands dirty. This season we grew our own tomatoes which went down a treat in the salads. At the Wimborne we love to support are residents interests and hobbies.

Baking

Baking club is always very popular not only in baking the food but eating it too! Here are some of our favourites recipes we have made, cookies, chocolate cake, jam tarts and blueberry muffins. Even our head chef like to burrow our recipes.
