Activities at Wheatlands Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Life at Wheatlands Care Home

Jubilee Celebrations

We were so excited to be able to host a Big Afternoon Tea here at the Wheatlands care home, with families and friends of our wonderful residents booking in to eat with us at our beautifully set tables and decorated living spaces. There were tombola’s, games, stalls and raffles for everyone to join in with and we have had so much positive feedback from families and friends saying what an enjoyable event it was. Special thanks goes out to two of our amazing staff, Donna (activities) and Joel (carer) who made the event extra special by dressing up as the Queen and her Prince!

Jubilee Celebrations at Shrewsbury school

An amazing Jubilee event we were invited to was over in Shrewsbury, at Shrewsbury school. Age UK and Shrewsbury school arranged the event and we were greeted with such kindness and support, it was lovely to be able to engage with our local communities. Residents experienced live music entertainment from the school children, a beautiful afternoon tea, but our favourite event by far was the mini tea dance provided in one of the small halls, we could not stop our feet from dancing!

Visiting the Allotment

A recent trip here at the Wheatlands care home saw us heading out into our community to visit the local allotments. We have now been 2 years in a row and been shown the wonderful fruits and vegetables grown here. We were even kindly donated a box of fruit and vegetables which the kitchen enjoyed making use of! We love spending time here, especially when it is bright and sunny.

National Museum Day

A recent trip of ours from the home took us to a wonderful museum for National Museum Day. We travelled over to Craven Arms and went to visit ‘Land of Lost content’ a museum filled with amazing displays throughout the ages from WW1 and ww2 all the way through to the 50s and 60s. The museum is filled from floor to ceiling with wonderful things throughout history and many things caught our residents eyes, such as shirts made of old parachute material from the war, a bottle of tizer evoking memories of buying bottles from the milk man’s van and many more. In the photo is our amazing activities coordinator Donna, who spotted this tiny tricycle and told us of her own memories on riding one just like it when she was little!

Severn Valley Railway

We had a fantastic day trip out to Severn Valley Railway in Bridgnorth. We had a well-deserved cup of tea after a good walk up and down the platform, practised waving to the passengers on the train as if we were in The Railway children and even caught a glimpse of the beautiful purple steam train, made especially for the upcoming Queen’s platinum Jubilee celebrations.

St George's Day

St George’s Day saw us celebrating in a number of ways here at the Wheatlands care home. From Chef martin’s wonderful red and white themed cakes, to big group singalongs, we have had so much fun. But, one of our favourite activities was our St George’s Day dragon arts and crafts, all the residents enjoyed this wonderfully creative activity and look how cute the resulting dragons are!
