Activities at Wheatlands Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Life at Wheatlands Care Home

Flower Arranging!

Here at Wheatlands Care Home, person-centred activities are of the utmost importance whether our residents here are permanent or here on a respite stay.

As soon as we heard that our newest respite resident was an avid flower arranger, we added it in to our weekly activity schedule. Other residents across the home also enjoyed this activity.

There's something about having fresh flowers that just brightens up the dullest of days and makes everyone smile.

Nutrition and Hydration Week

Here at Wheatlands we have enjoyed a whole host of events throughout the week, focusing on the importance of good nutrition and ensuring both our residents and staff stay hydrated.

We held a ladies that lunch event in our cafe. It was a chance to bring people together to enjoy a delicious and nutritious 3-course meal cooked by our fabulous chefs.

Barbara said, "What a treat it feels like we have gone to a real restaurant!"

We decided to end the week today with a wine and cheese afternoon. Residents across both our communities and those in their bedrooms enjoyed a selection of cheese and cured meats and se carefully paired wines.

Music Therapy

Music is so important in all our lives. It manages to spark lots of memories and always brings so much joy and happiness. That's why music therapy is so important to all our residents, especially those on our memory lane unit. Residents enjoyed another incredible music therapy session from our friends at Kiddleydivey Shropshire, Mid Wales & Wolverhampton - Adults.

It was another interactive and lively music session. Each and every song took us down memory lane as we sang and danced the morning away. The room was full of so much joy and happiness it truly was magical to be apart of. The session evoked many conversations which carried on long after the session had finished over a cuppa and a delicious homemade cake.

Baby Shower

We said farewell to our lovely Juliette as she starts her maternity leave and starts her next chapter! Juilette is such a massive part of the Wheatlands Care Home family, so loving and caring and one of the nicest people you will ever meet and a fantastic asset to the activities team.

We couldn't let her leave without the residents and staff showing her how much she means to everyone. We organised a surprise baby shower and spent the morning eating delicious cakes and drinking bucks fizz. With lots of words of wisdom from our wonderful residents.

We can't wait for the safe arrival of your little bundle of joy and to meet him and have lots of baby cuddles.

Guinea Pig Therapy

Meet Lola! Residents were delighted to meet this fury friend for lots of strokes and cuddles, although they were a little bit disappointed when we had to give these beautiful Guinea pigs back to lovely Lisa, their owner from Hoppy Guinea Holidays - Small Pet Holidays And More With Lisa.

After a recent resident meeting some residents expressed how much they miss their animals and simply just having them sit on their laps to stroke. You can imagine our delight after connecting with Lisa and being able to make more wishes come true for our residents here at Wheatlands Care Home.
Not only did our residents get to hold and feed Lily and Lola, but they also got to learn all about them and reminisce about their own pets. Lots of residents themselves have owned Guinea pigs over the years and some had never held one.

Pet therapy has so many benefits for our residents by providing a sense of comfort and companionship, reducing feelings of isolation, encouraging reminiscence whilst also bringing lots of joy and happiness.
Residents have loved having these fury friends to visit and have decided they would like to see them on a monthly basis.

Christmas Traditions

Christmas is very close to all of our hearts and many of our residents enjoy visiting our local church for the annual Christmas tree and nativity festival where the local community each design their own tree for the event.

Residents enjoyed looking at our entry after spending many hours designing and creating decorations for our tree as well as looking at all of the other beautiful trees.

The residents were able to take part in Christmas Holy Communion and light a candle for their loved ones and keep friends and family in their thoughts. They were lucky enough to be joined be the church curate, Sam and enjoyed coffee and mince pies together - a real festive treat.
