Activities at Tyspane Care Home
Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.
Jacqui Conroy
Jacqui and her team devise and plan fun group activities and events for all our residents, including pamper days, gentle exercise classes and music therapies. Regular one to one sessions and smaller groups are tailored to residents specific needs and hobbies with gardening and crafts amongst the most popular.

Life at Tyspane Care Home
Macmillan Coffee Morning
Residents and staff at Tyspane Care Centre in Braunton put the ‘fun’ into ‘fundraising’ with a charity coffee morning, bake sale and a raffle to raise money for Macmillan Nurses.
Aime Bown, General Manager at Tyspane said: “We love to fundraise for charities throughout the year for different causes, residents and friends of the home were not able to gather together this year but everyone did what they could donating cakes and raffle prizes. Macmillan is a cause very close to the hearts of all our staff and residents, so we feel really proud to have been able to raise this money. Thank you to everyone who donated!”
Virtual Dog Show
Tyspane held their annual dog show with a difference this year: friends and families were invited to join in the dog show by sending in pictures of their pets. Residents at the home made up the judging panel.
Show categories included: Most Handsome Dog, Best Veteran, Funniest Picture, Scruffiest Mutt, Best Fancy Dress, Best Bling and Funniest Puppy (one that would make your heart melt).
Tyspane teamed up with a local pet supplier, Top 'n' Tails, from Braunton, who donated rosettes and prizes for all the winners. Best in show was Handsome French Bulldog, Esra, and first runner up was a beautiful Alsatian named Mitzie.
On the day, photos were distributed to the residents, who deliberated over tea and especially themed cakes picking the best photo in each class.
Summer Birthday
Mrs Mckernan is pictured celebrating her birthday with flowers and a cake sent from her family. Happy birthday!
Welcome Back!
Residents at Tyspane recently opened up their gardens to allow friends and family to visit again after the long lockdown, which has seen families keeping in touch using Skype and FaceTime. Residents at the home have enjoyed some emotional reunions, and it meant such a lot to their families, who have been lucky enough to share a birthday or two.
Green Fingers
Residents enjoyed an afternoon planting sweet peas, which they hope will make a splash of color on the patio this summer. Residents planted seeds and will nurture them over the next few weeks.
VE Day Celebrations
Residents and staff at Tyspane enjoyed a variety of activities to celebrate the 75th anniversary of VE Day. Events were lower key than had been planned due to the pandemic, but this did not dampen their spirits.
The home was decorated with wartime memorabilia, flags and art work from local children and staff. Residents read VE Day poetry and enjoyed wartime music and sing-alongs, which continued throughout the day. A special raffle was drawn by the residents, with some prizes donated by staff. The highlight was the Queen’s speech, which reassured and brought back memories to so many.
VE Day is a chance for our residents to join together and remember the celebrations and the emotion of 1945.
