Activities at Tixover House Care Home
Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.
Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Caroline Geddes
Hello, my name is Caroline and I joined the team at Tixover House in 2023.
I am passionate about creating person-centred activities which ultimately enrich our residents' lives. My main aim is to bring happiness through the doorway daily; spreading smiles, laughter and love - I want to make a difference to the lives of those that we support.
Activities and Events Partnerships
As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies
Life at Tixover House Care Home

Rutland Sailability, Rutland Sailing Club Open Day
We had a marvellous time at the local sailing club open day this morning. Thank you for having us today! Thank you to Vysakh for joining our outing (remember to let our residents win at pool next time!). We looked around the sailing club, went into the club and had refreshments and went out onto the jetty! We loved meeting so many old and new friends too!
Unfortunately, the wind wasn’t on our side (there was no wind at all!), but we were welcomed to come back and sail and arrangements are in place! Huge thank you from myself, Caroline (Head Of Activities) and from our staff and residents of Tixover House.

Sensational Classical Singer Gabriella Rodrigues, what a divine performance!
Wow, sensational! A beautiful lady inside and out!! Just a few photos taken of our wonderful afternoon of opera! A glass of Rose fizz and lots of kindness, compassion and love!! Gabriella commented after the event. “I actually love you guys so much.”
Our staff danced (if you haven’t seen the video, head over to our Facebook page!), there were housekeeping props to hand, our residents joined, as well as being seated enjoying refreshments and just taking in the sounds.
Gabriella spent time afterwards with our residents, for photos and person-centred conversation.

Mother’s Day afternoon tea extravaganza in our home
Huge thank you from the Activities Manager to our Head Chef, Tony, and the kitchen team and all the staff team at the home today; a wonderful afternoon tea for our Mother’s Day celebration and our support of the RD-cook-off event.
Our ladies of the home received a kind donation of Mother’s Day cards, handwritten by Activities and our carer, Claire, kindly distributed them to the ladies today, handing out smiles as she went. Just look at the afternoon tea set up, so much enjoyment for our residents, so many delicious treats served alongside a selection of wines.
Thank you all once again for a whole-home approach and, ever so well-supported by our Head Chef and all the staff working this Mother’s Day, thank you for working alongside Activities to make today such a successful event. A true picture of just one of the reasons why we have a superb home.

Wish fulfilment - a reminiscing trip to Railworld, for live-long train fanatic!
Our resident worked for British Rail and has always had a keen interest in the railways. We spent the morning exploring Railworld. A huge thank you to the volunteers and for your kindness on the day in donating train postcards to our resident for their birthday tomorrow.
We enjoyed hot drinks and cakes seated at a picnic table. To top off our visit and to bring it full circle, we met the Station Master, who kindly spent time speaking with our resident and listening to their history surrounding the topic and who also kindly gave a donation, this time of railway-themed literature. These items will be added to our residents' Memory Box. Tomorrow our resident will be enjoying their birthday in the home, with a person-centred gift and, of course, more cake!
We picked up a crochet item too (tagged into this post)(hopefully we can thank the right person!), this we took back with us and gifted to one of our residents (photo included). Please continue to add your loved one’s wishes to our wish tree in reception as we are delivering them. Lastly, a huge thank you to our Dementia Champion, Kathy, for supporting this trip. It has been a most wonderful morning for all involved, and we couldn’t have done it without your time and dedication to our residents having their wishes fulfilled. Thank you to Senior Carer Radhika for covering care this morning in the home so that I could borrow an extra pair of hands, hugely appreciated. In our residents' words, “It has been a very nice time. I enjoyed the information from the Station Master. I am very happy with today’s visit.”

Wish fulfilment - Home-made potting table for our resident to promote independent gardening
Our resident's family put a wish on our wish tree, and we delivered upon that wish today. Asking for a table, compost and seeds for their mum to pursue her interest in gardening in our outdoor courtyard.
I have kept an eye out for a potting table for a while but instead just decided not to wait and upcycled a shelving unit to declutter the garage. Thank you to my neighbours for supplying extra wood and stain and also for pots and flowers from their garden. A few hours of graft in the sunshine (a pleasant occasion) and here we have it: Our residents have a potting table to promote independence in gardening.
Gardening Club this morning spent potting the flowers and organising on our wall in our courtyard. This is going to be a great space for the spring and will enhance our Gardening Club and the overall experience of our residents spending time in one of our courtyard gardens.

Wish fulfilment - Stamford Bridge Club kindly supporting our home
Huge thank you to Stamford Bridge Club who are supporting our residents with, where possible, regular visits.
This will enable our residents to maintain existing links with clubs in the community and to continue to pursue their interests. Afraid I wasn't up to much when it came to Bridge, it is good for our residents to be around those with like-minded interests and of a standard to have healthy competition.
Just look at the smile and happiness of our residents! Once again, a massive thank you to Stamford Bridge Club. Your kindness is gratefully received.
