Activities at Tixover House Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Caroline Geddes

Activities Coordinator

Hello, my name is Caroline and I joined the team at Tixover House in 2023.

I am passionate about creating person-centred activities which ultimately enrich our residents' lives.  My main aim is to bring happiness through the doorway daily; spreading smiles, laughter and love - I want to make a difference to the lives of those that we support.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Our lovely friends return with their exotic pets!

We simply adore Josie and Sally and the energy and passion they bring through our doors, during their exotic pet demonstrations. This time, rather than in our Main Lounge, they spent time in our Nursing Community and upstairs. We cannot wait to arrange another date for some time on our Memory Lane.

We cannot thank you enough for sharing your time with us and bringing such variety within our life enrichment programme. Josie kindly printed photos from her previous visit which are being shared with our residents. Two genuine, lovely friends of our home, who we value deeply. Josie said “Absolutely loved today! Thank you so much Caroline. Love to you all. See you again soon. Take care.”

Our residents said the following: “Fabulous, I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was just lovely and something completely different. It gives you something to think about. They were just lovely.” “I enjoyed seeing the snake and dragon. They don’t like sudden movements, as long as you’re gentle. The girls were very good indeed, and the animals knew the girls,” “I liked the snake, I’m normally a bit frightened of things like that, but he was very willing to be stroked. The girls were very nice too ” and “I thought the pets were very nice and unusual. I thought they were very dear. The girls were very good.”

Dementia Disco

Staff and residents dusted off their dancing shoes, leg warmers and glowsticks for the launch of their Dementia Disco initiative which they held, very aptly, during Dementia Action Week.

Knowing how much their residents living with dementia love to dance and sing, the activities team at came up with the genius idea of a dementia-friendly disco.  The team also invited relatives and loved ones, members of the local community and friends of the home to the first official dementia-friendly disco.

Easter Sunday afternoon tea extraordinaire

What an occasion Easter was in our home, a highlight being an Easter-themed high tea! Lots of loved ones and visitors joined for the event, and it has been so splendid having so many visitors to our home, especially this weekend!

Thank you to our Chef Ian for producing this afternoon's event, the staff supporting this weekend’s activities and Cheryl for supporting further activities this afternoon. We have had church services, quizzes and Easter hymns. All areas of the home have had Easter wishes, Easter activities and puzzle packs, Easter cards, chocolates and tipples, bubbles and baileys. Looking forward to unwinding with Easter Monday in our home, lots of walks in our grounds hopefully and still so much chocolate to consume.

Seventh Day Adventist Church, spectacular performance within our home for the Easter weekend

Thank you to Belister and Justo (two of our nurses), their sons Francis and Franklin (our carer staff) and family and to all their choir (just look at how many (30+ choir attendees!) took time out of their Easter weekend to provide an Easter service and choir to our residents!) It was so upbeat and moving!!

Thank you once again for your kind donation of toiletries and chocolates to our home!! Huge thank you to the Memory Lane carer-team who managed to get all the residents to this afternoon’s entertainment in the main lounge and to Hostess Cheryl, who came into the activities team to help this event run so smoothly!

Secondly, to this Saturday event, the following Tuesday, when two of our staff members from Seventh Day Adventist Church came on site for staff training, they kindly did an impromptu morning song in our Main Lounge whilst residents finished their breakfast and others helped activities put up decorations for St George’s Day. It was such a lovely, surprising start to our days.

Magical, much loved, intergenerational time within our home!

It is amazing to see what a difference it makes to our residents, time spent with children, look at just some of the photos taken when we had our little visitors at our home. Thank you once again, ladies, for bringing your little’uns in for us to share!! So very very precious!

Our carers' children were seated on our residents' knees as well as seen on the dance floor during our singer Steve Carmel’s set. Lots of cooing over how beautiful and handsome the babies are, smiles, joy, happiness and love, throughout our Main Lounge. Kindly, the carers visited other areas of the home, for residents' enjoyment who may not be wanting to attend the afternoon’s singing.

Railworld Wildlife Haven

Resident, Jim, worked for British Rail so had wanted to visit the Railworld Wildlife Haven, so the staff at the home made his wish a reality, proving the old adage, it’s never too late.

Jim has lived at Tixover House for a year and is beloved by staff and residents alike. Staff at the home were delighted to be a part of making his wish come true, as they knew how much it meant to him, and they all wanted to be there to see the smile on Jim’s face when his dream was realised.
