Meet our Activities Coordinator, Georgia White

I am really excited to be on board at Tandridge Heights. I am already having lots of fun with our lovely residents and planning lots more. I am a recent graduate in Musical Theatre so as you can imagine I have a tonne of energy to bring to our home.

Activities at Tandridge Heights

Our qualified and dedicated activities staff plan and implement all activities within the home. We try our best to arrange activities that reflect our residents interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can. We try to keep our residents active and happy.

Our activities include trips to garden centres, pubs, the cinema or the local theatre. We have many fun games like carpet bowls, Play Your Cards Right or armchair exercises. There are many musical events, singalongs, garden parties and tea parties for everyone to enjoy as well!

Life at Tandridge Heights Care Home

Pen Pals

Tandridge Heights has teamed up with Bohanam House in Gloustershire for a newly launched pen pal scheme, connecting residents from each care home with each other through their stories of the past by sending letters, and making new friends.

In light of the current situation and the residents not being able to have visitors at this time, we all felt it was so beneficial to keep in touch with one another. They wanted to write letters of happiness and encouragement. We will also cover topics such as holidays and places to visit, as well as cautionary tales from all the residents of Tandridge Heights. Our residents are hoping to share their interesting tales of the past. We hope we can continue even after the current situation subsides.

She welcomed and nursed our first ever resident and has continued caring and nursing residents and looking after their relatives to ensure that their needs have been met over all these years since.

VE Day Celebrations

At Tandridge Heights residents and staff celebrated 75 years of VE Day slightly different this year. However, this did not stop us celebrating and honouring our heroes – both then and now. We are lucky to have residents who served in the Second World War. Residents had individual sessions reading poems and sing along, shared memories and reminisced about life then and now, encouraging and constantly reminding us that life is beautiful and priceless. In such uncertain times this is a beautiful reminder: looking back at what that generation did gives us the strength and confidence that we can do this too.

Anniversary garden walks

Two of our residents recently celebrated their wedding anniversary at Tandridge Heights. Chef and staff organised a lovely romantic lunch for two.

Pam moved to our home just a few days before the lock down so she could be close to her husband and support each other. They spend most of their time together, reading the newspaper, watching their favourite shows on TV and sharing memories. As the weather that day was fabulous, Pam and Patrick had a nice walk in the garden enjoying the sun and all the spring flowers. It was an emotional experience for us too as we could see how much they love and care for each other and enjoying their company, because  true love has no expiring date.

Being Pampered in our pop up salon

When the hair dresser cannot come to the home and pumper our ladies. With the help of the community and our amazing staff, we have helped our residents feel groomed and fabulous.

Our receptionist Jane contacted one of her friends, which happens to be the owner of a well-known local salon in Oxted, called Elements. In less than nothing, she dropped off all the items required to create our own temporary “pop-up” salon. Nothing can stand between a women’s desire to look always good and groomed.  It was wonderful that  we could offer this ‘pick me up’  for our residents and that they enjoyed the experience so much.

Caring Donations

Staff have been overwhelmed by the generosity of the local community. Waitrose donated hampers full of delicious treats for all of the staff. They recognised just how hard everyone was working at this time and wanted to give something back. It really bought a smile to everyone faces.
