Meet our Activities Coordinator, Georgia White
I am really excited to be on board at Tandridge Heights. I am already having lots of fun with our lovely residents and planning lots more. I am a recent graduate in Musical Theatre so as you can imagine I have a tonne of energy to bring to our home.
Activities at Tandridge Heights
Our qualified and dedicated activities staff plan and implement all activities within the home. We try our best to arrange activities that reflect our residents interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can. We try to keep our residents active and happy.
Our activities include trips to garden centres, pubs, the cinema or the local theatre. We have many fun games like carpet bowls, Play Your Cards Right or armchair exercises. There are many musical events, singalongs, garden parties and tea parties for everyone to enjoy as well!
Life at Tandridge Heights Care Home
Chairman of Tandridge District Council Visit
Chairman of Tandridge District Council, Councillor Jeremy Pursehouse, has visited Barchester’s Tandridge Heights Memorial care home in Oxted for a social distanced garden visit aimed to show appreciation to local care home workers.
Councillor Jeremy was joined by his Consort, Wendy Pursehouse as well as Jackie Wren, district councillor for Oxted North & Tandridge. Councillor Pursehouse gave a short speech thanking the staff for their hard work and dedication through this entire period.
Care Home Heroes 2020 Competition
Tandridge Heights volunteers are runner-up winners of the Care Home Heroes 2020 Competition: Caring Times magazine in association with Ontex teamed up to reward those working in care homes who are always ready to go that extra mile.
Our General Manager nominated Tandridge heights volunteers, Doreen and Jacqueline for their amazing contribution to the homes and the positive impact they have made in the lives of residents at Tandridge heights.
Doreen and Jacqueline will each receive a £250 voucher and will be featured in the October edition of the caring time magazine.
Indoor Beach Party
Residents of Tandridge Heights had a beach party to celebrate the hottest day of the year 2020. Staff worked tirelessly to transform our 3 units into 3 different bars: Tiki bar, beach bar and tropical bar. Residents were treated to a mouth-watering platter of food and a selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks and cocktails.
Residents then enjoyed ice-lollies which led to a beach themed reminiscence session and the strike the piñatas’ game just added an extra bit of oomph to the day.
Coveted British Citizen Award
Tandridge Heights volunteer to be honoured with a coveted British citizen award: we are proud to announce that Doreen Raymond, a volunteer from Oxted, Surrey is to be recognised with a British citizen award medal of honour (BCAC) in recognition of her extraordinary endeavours with regards to services in the community.
Doreen was nominated for this award by the general manager of Tandridge heights memorial care home, Victoria Oladosu. For 5 years Doreen has attended Tandridge Heights, every single day visiting the residents, sitting chatting with them, assisting with meals and helping them attend the weekly church services, which the residents know and love.
Doreen has found a way to ensure she lives a fulfilling life, but also ensures those she supports in the community have one too. The British citizen award was established in 2015, to recognise exceptional individuals who work tirelessly and selflessly making a positive impact on society. Each medal of honour bears the words ‘for the good of the country’ and are presented to only a small number of exceptional individuals twice yearly. The British citizen award is widely viewed as the nation’s way of recognising extraordinary, everyday people for exceptional endeavor and are truly representative of today’s multicultural Britain.
Divisional Hospitality Champion
Congratulations to Rachel Apps, who has been named as a Divisional Winner in the 2020 Barchester Care Awards. Rachel is a finalist in the Hospitality Champion category and has been invited to attend a virtual awards ceremony on 8th October, where she will find out if she has won overall.
Tandridge Heights caused quite a racquet during its tennis-themed party to celebrate the start of Wimbledon. Residents at the home were dressed in their crisp white linens and were served Pimm’s and homemade scones as they battled it out with balloon tennis and enjoyed watching some of the most iconic games on television. A mobile trolley of champagne, strawberries and cream was taken to all the residents in the home.
Continuing Life Enrichment
During this unprecedented time, we have a number of measures in place to ensure residents remain engaged, connected and socially active.
We know the importance of supporting our local community and hold monthly groups, specifically for those living with dementia or caring for a loved one.
Our PAT dog will be joining us every Thursday from 10:30 a.m. – everyone is welcome!
Don't Dine Alone
