Activities at Tandridge Heights Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.

Our qualified and dedicated activities staff plan and implement all activities within the home. We try our best to arrange activities that reflect our residents interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can. We try to keep our residents active and happy.

Our activities include trips to garden centres, pubs, the cinema or the local theatre. We have many fun games like carpet bowls, Play Your Cards Right or armchair exercises. There are many musical events, singalongs, garden parties and tea parties for everyone to enjoy as well!

Making a wish come true

Jean is a resident of Tandridge Heights. Her family own a selection of garden centres called Knights, which were founded by her parents, Jack and Jessie, and when Jean was younger she used to work at the Chelsham centre, helping with the plants, baking and selling cakes and general help around the store.

Jean’s brothers still own the company and Jean really wanted to go back to the Chelsham centre to see how much it had changed since she was last there. We spoke to Jean’s brother, Jack, who told us stories about Jean working at the garden centre, and he thought it was a great idea, and it would be really lovely for Jean to go back.

We set off in the minibus. When Jean arrived she was so happy. Walking through the garden centre, she was pointing out things that had changed and was telling us what she used to do when she was there. She had a good look round and said hello to all the staff. She even enjoyed a nice slice of cake and a cup of tea in the café she used to work in.

Jean spotted a picture of her mum and dad on the wall and shouted “That’s my mum and dad”, making us all laugh. Jean was overjoyed to have seen the picture and took great delight in sharing the story of the visit and the pictures when her brother Jack visited the next day. Jack said that it was wonderful that Jean had got the opportunity to return to the centre and experience how much it had changed since her days there.

Love is in the air at Tandridge Heights!

Love is in the air at Tandridge Heights

Residents were treated to a fabulous performance from the talented Ryan Fernandez, everybody sang and danced along. We spent the day reminiscing about our own love experiences and talking about what makes a happy marriage. Resident Mena said the best way to have a happy marriage is ‘happy wife, happy life’.

Everybody then enjoyed a sweet treat or chocolate to continue spreading the love. Resident John said it was fantastic to enjoy a bar of chocolate and talk about his wife who loved the same chocolate.

National Pizza Day!

To celebrate National Pizza Day residents at Tandridge Heights spent the afternoon making delicious homemade pizzas, choosing from a selection of fresh vegetables and different meats.

There was a bit of a debate about whether pineapple belongs on a pizza, but the majority decided that it does not! Residents then enjoyed a slice of pizza as an afternoon snack and, as you can see by their faces, it definitely went down well.

Baking and food tasting can stimulate all the senses and help trigger happy memories. It is also a good way for residents to be social and reminisce about cooking at home for their families.

Chinese New Year!

Chinese New Year was celebrated at Tandridge Heights with a delicious Chinese banquet from The Golden Palace in Oxted and a fun general knowledge quiz night.

The quiz was a tie between The Mighty Mavericks and the Cockney Boys and the Cheeky Girls.

The Cockney boys and the Cheeky Girls took the win as they won the tie-break question.

The question was: How long has Tandridge Heights been open? The answer is: 19 years.
A fun night was had by all that attended!

Art and Craft Therapy!

Residents at Tandridge Heights recently enjoyed a relaxing afternoon of art and craft therapy.

There was a selection of materials available and residents chose what music they wished to listen to while creating. The general consensus was relaxing spa music and beautiful products were produced.

Resident, Billy, really concentrated on the details of her design and John was over the moon with his finished result. We all had a very calming and creative afternoon.

Trip to Local Morrisons

At Tandridge Heights, we understand the importance of our local community to our residents and for them to be able to still facilitate this.

On a chilly morning, we ventured out to our local Morrisons in Oxted. We all enjoyed a delicious hot chocolate while sharing stories and memories.

We had a great time chatting the morning away. Resident Dolly said it was the perfect thing for a chilly morning, and she could not wait to tell her daughter what a great time she had.
