Activities at Sycamore Grove Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Activities lead and Speak up Champion

I first worked in the care sector in 2016. I have since gained a wealth of experience in dedicated dementia and residential activities, where I was an Activities Coordinator.

The largest and best part of my role was to ensure my residents were engaged in meaningful activities on a daily basis. I do this by taking into account their life history, their interests, likes and dislikes in order to promote their wellbeing currently and for the future. Liaising with family, friends and members of the community is also part of my role and it offers continuity to the lives of our residents. I love giving people a purpose and enabling our residents to do as much as possible of the things they love to do.

I cannot wait to welcome our residents into their wonderful new home and help to bring smiles, joy and laughter to each day.

Arranging trips out and visiting the community

The team have been out visiting and supporting our local Polegate Community Centre. We popped in to see the amazing community Cafe held by Home Instead, everyone was having so much fun!

Thank you for having us pop by and we will be visiting much more often to come along to some of the amazing events listed in Polegate Community centre brochure.

ONE HUNDRED AND EIGHTY

Our home was excited about our new piece of equipment.

Our new electronic dart board brought some great competition to Sycamore Grove on an evening of pub sports with nearly all the home taking part!

We are always looking for new ideas and this one went down really well.

I think we may have a few more evenings at the oche.

Our portable magic table is an incredible piece of equipment.

We love using the magic table as there are so many different games, puzzles, and apps we can use. As the table is mobile we can move it anywhere in the home and help anyone in the community with sitmulation. We especially love the way we can use it as a group, it was a great tool for us all to socialize and bonded us as we completed the levels together!

Saturday night is a special night!

Strictly come dancing is a staple of our week, last weekend we were all entertained in our lounge, wrapped up with blankets, glasses of wine charged ready to see the stars of the show!

The gardening club at Sycamore Grove Care Home has been a great success!

The gardening club at Sycamore Grove Care Home has been a great success! The club meets every Wednesday afternoon, and residents and members of the local community have been enjoying getting their hands dirty in the garden. They've planted all sorts of different flowers and herbs, and the results are looking fantastic.

Well done gardeners!

Exercise keeps us at our best

We enjoyed a fun and energetic exercise class today, led by our wonderful Lynette. We regularly do these classes to help keep our residents active and healthy, and it's always a great way to get some exercise and socialize with our friends.
