Activities at Sycamore Grove Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Lynette Allen

Activities lead and Speak up Champion

I first worked in the care sector in 2016. I have since gained a wealth of experience in dedicated dementia and residential activities, where I was an Activities Coordinator.

The largest and best part of my role was to ensure my residents were engaged in meaningful activities on a daily basis. I do this by taking into account their life history, their interests, likes and dislikes in order to promote their wellbeing currently and for the future. Liaising with family, friends and members of the community is also part of my role and it offers continuity to the lives of our residents. I love giving people a purpose and enabling our residents to do as much as possible of the things they love to do.

I cannot wait to welcome our residents into their wonderful new home and help to bring smiles, joy and laughter to each day.

Visiting the local community

Laurence has been out and about today visiting the local community.

He first visited a charity called Just Friends who were meeting at Bibendums in Eastbourne this is a wonderful charitable meeting group who help the local community who may be in need of friendship in lonely times of need, they were having their bi weekly catch up and we dropped in some cakes to have with their tea.

Laurence also visited Amanda from Alice Croft House, based on Wish Road and it was lovely to see they had lots of visitors enjoying a coffee morning. They had a catch up and spoke about the amazing work the Barchesters Charitable Foundation do and how they may be able to help with an application to the foundation in funding amazing things in the community.

Rockin' aorund the Christmas Tree

Jean has been hard at work decorating the Christmas tree yet another Christmas tree, and it's looking absolutely magical. She's used a variety of ornaments and lights to create a festive and inviting atmosphere.

We can't wait to see the finished product!

Sycamore Grove is getting festive! Festive cheer fills the air as Sycamore Grove gears up for Christmas.

Yesterday the staff and residents have been busy decorating the home with festive lights and garlands, and the aroma of Christmas baking fills the air. Yesterday, we all gathered in the dining room and kitchen to bake a traditional Christmas cake. It was a fun-filled afternoon with everyone getting involved in the mixing, stirring, and decorating. The cake is now cooling, and we can't wait to taste it!

We are also planning a number of festive activities for the residents over the next few weeks, including carol singing, Christmas crafts, and a festive party. We are all looking forward to celebrating Christmas together at Sycamore Grove.

Ron and Laurence shave the Mo's for Movember

We finally managed to get the clippers out and take off the unwanted facial hair! At Sycamore Grove it is important to us that we care and can do our bit to help a massively underfunded cause. Movember are doing a great job to fill that void that didn't exist prior to its conception.  Movember are a charity close to our hearts due to the amazing work they do, at Sycamore Grove it is important to us that we care and can do our bit to help a massively underfunded cause. We raised £110 which is a great total!

Christmas Bauble painting

At Sycamore Grove we wanted to add a little personality to our Christmas decorating.

We have been painting our own personalised baubles. We did start basing our designs on templates and ended becoming very creative making our own designs as the session went on.

If you wish to see these in person we would love for you to pop by and see the decorating in action as we build up to our fully festive themed home.

Sycamore Grove Christmas Fayre

What a wonderful day at our first Christmas Fayre here at Sycamore Grove. Everyone enjoyed selecting presents from the amazing stalls in our lovely bistro. A huge thank you to those who turned out in such dreadful weather to support our event, which was a great success. Thanks also to the stall holders for allowing us to showcase their products, and to everyone who helped make this a great day.
