Activities at Sycamore Grove Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Lynette Allen

Activities Co-ordinator

I first worked in the care sector in 2016. I have since gained a wealth of experience in dedicated dementia and residential activities, where I was an Activities Coordinator.

The largest and best part of my role was to ensure my residents were engaged in meaningful activities on a daily basis. I do this by taking into account their life history, their interests, likes and dislikes in order to promote their wellbeing currently and for the future. Liaising with family, friends and members of the community is also part of my role and it offers continuity to the lives of our residents. I love giving people a purpose and enabling our residents to do as much as possible of the things they love to do.

I cannot wait to welcome our residents into their wonderful new home and help to bring smiles, joy and laughter to each day.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Daffodil Planting

Our wonderful gardener Ollie enlisted the help of some keen green fingered residents today! David, Christopher and Eliisa were delighted to help with watering the new daffodils which have just been planted on one of our balconies! We already have a wonderful herb garden which we use in some of our meals, however we are keen to start growing some vegetables! Keep your eyes peeled to see what is planted next

National Chocolate Cake Day

Chocolate cake has been around since 1764, so this week we celebrated National Chocolate Cake Day! Nettie, Barbara and Brenda rolled up their sleeves and got stuck into the ingredients but instead of making cakes, they made delicious truffle cookies instead! These were a big hit and gone in a flash. Thank you ladies.

A trip to Staverton Nurseries

Our residents braved the cold weather recently to visit Staverton Nursery at Halland. The route was picture postcard frosty and enjoyed by all. We looked around at the wonderful selection of plants and were amazed at the new Food Hall with its variety of delectable goodies. The new cafe was great and the service friendly and efficient. A delightful morning out

Margaret turns 102!

Our wonderful Margaret celebrated her 102nd birthday surrounded by loved ones. Margaret has lived at Sycamore Grove for almost two years now and wanted a low-key birthday this year. You may remember her in the news last year when she went to play snooker with a local celebrity player, however this year was a little different. Margaret and her family celebrated in the home and her favourite singer Steve Dunnett came to entertain her and the other residents. She had a dance with her son followed by staff and residents singing Happy Birthday then a delicious cream tea whipped together by the home's chef as well as some of the residents home baked scones.
