Activities at Sycamore Grove Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Lynette Allen

Activities lead and Speak up Champion

I first worked in the care sector in 2016. I have since gained a wealth of experience in dedicated dementia and residential activities, where I was an Activities Coordinator.

The largest and best part of my role was to ensure my residents were engaged in meaningful activities on a daily basis. I do this by taking into account their life history, their interests, likes and dislikes in order to promote their wellbeing currently and for the future. Liaising with family, friends and members of the community is also part of my role and it offers continuity to the lives of our residents. I love giving people a purpose and enabling our residents to do as much as possible of the things they love to do.

I cannot wait to welcome our residents into their wonderful new home and help to bring smiles, joy and laughter to each day.

Introducing the incredible artwork from Mr Arnold Beck!

Arnold used to be a mathematician and in his spare time he uses his talents in Mathematics to create incredible Symmetrical and asymmetrical pictures. Take a look at this spectacular artwork he creates using geometry to create his designs which are framed and adorning his bedroom walls.

Amazing work Arnold and keep them coming we can't wait to see what the next design brings.

Wealden Dementia Action Alliance Forum

The Wealden Dementia Action Alliance Forum visited Sycamore Grove yesterday and we had an incredible meeting to help increase the awareness of Dementia and dementia related events happening in the area.

The event was very well attended with 20 people who support dementia related causes in the Wealden area in attendance.

If you feel you could help please reach out, the Alliance would be keen to grow membership or if you need signposting or help with a loved one for local events to attend or want some understanding surrounding dementia related questions we will be happy to help.

Lest we forget

The home has prepared for our days of remembrance in Armistice day and remembrance Sunday by preparing a mural.

The wonderful mural has hand painted poppy's surrounding a beautiful poem of remembrance by our very own Ron Jolley who is an incredible poet I am sure you will agree.

We will take our moments of remembrance this weekend with solace and thankfulness to the brave souls who gave so much so we could be free.

Movember is in full swing at Sycamore Grove we are all getting behind the moustache growing!

Laurence and Ron's 'tashes are coming along nicely, to support men's health. We have raised £45 from donations so far and would love for them to keep coming!

Keep your eyes peeled for our end of Movember MoParty coming soon!

Bluebell Barn Nursery visits to see our home

We had Bluebell Barn visit for their intergenerational playtime, we made some poppies for Remembrance Sunday and had a great time!

We even had one of the little ones not forget that it was our very own Barbara's Birthday, it was really lovely because they even brought her flowers for her special day!

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas..

We've been busy prepping the start of Christmas at Sycamore grove and these ladies have been busy making the bistro tree ready for the Christmas Fayre on Saturday.

I'm sure you will agree they've done a fantastic job and we are so happy the festivities are beginning.
