Activities at Sycamore Grove Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Lynette Allen

Activities Co-ordinator

I first worked in the care sector in 2016. I have since gained a wealth of experience in dedicated dementia and residential activities, where I was an Activities Coordinator.

The largest and best part of my role was to ensure my residents were engaged in meaningful activities on a daily basis. I do this by taking into account their life history, their interests, likes and dislikes in order to promote their wellbeing currently and for the future. Liaising with family, friends and members of the community is also part of my role and it offers continuity to the lives of our residents. I love giving people a purpose and enabling our residents to do as much as possible of the things they love to do.

I cannot wait to welcome our residents into their wonderful new home and help to bring smiles, joy and laughter to each day.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Bluebell Barn Nursery visits to see our home

We had the cutest visitors at Sycamore Grove yesterday! The little ones from Bluebell Nursery came by to decorate biscuits, play games, and read story books with our residents. It was such a heart-warming experience to see the different generations connecting and having so much fun together.

Ginger-y fun at Sycamore Grove!

Sunshine, spice, and sticky fingers - that was the afternoon at Sycamore Grove today! ️ We whipped up a batch of the most delicious gingernuts, the air thick with the warm aroma of ginger and molasses.

There's something so satisfying about getting hands-on baking, especially with good company and a beautiful backdrop like Sycamore Grove. We kneaded, rolled, and balled delicious cookies.

The best part was eating them! They were practically begging to be dunked in a steaming mug of tea!

P.S. If you're quick, we might just have a spare gingernut or two to share!

Happy Birthday Peter

We want to wish Peter a very happy birthday! It was his birthday yesterday and we celebrated with cake in the bistro with his nearest and dearest.

The whole team came together and sang happy birthday to celebrate.

From all of us at Sycamore Grove, we hope you had a great day. Happy birthday, Peter

Christmas visit from Bluebells Nursery

This week at Sycamore Grove we had a very specially visit from a very special group of people. Our weekly guests from Bluebells Nursery visited to swap gifts, sing carols, and read a Christmas story with us and they had been growing beautiful plants for the home!

We also had a visit from local Bobbies Fleur and Richie who the children were really happy to see to!

What generous and thoughtful gifts. It was lovely to see you all and we hope you have a wonderful Christmas and a brilliant New year!

Oh yes they did! Sycamore Grove residents enjoy a trip to the panto!

Our wonderful residents at Sycamore Grove had a fantastic time at the pantomime this week! They were treated to a hilarious performance of Beauty and the Beast, complete with all the traditional panto fun: slapstick, silly costumes, and plenty of audience participation.

The residents were in stitches from the very beginning, and they especially loved Tucker rolling out the jokes. They even joined in with the singing and shouting, creating a truly magical atmosphere.

Thank you Devonshire Park Theater what a wonderful night!
