Activities at Sycamore Grove Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Lynette Allen

Activities lead and Speak up Champion

I first worked in the care sector in 2016. I have since gained a wealth of experience in dedicated dementia and residential activities, where I was an Activities Coordinator.

The largest and best part of my role was to ensure my residents were engaged in meaningful activities on a daily basis. I do this by taking into account their life history, their interests, likes and dislikes in order to promote their wellbeing currently and for the future. Liaising with family, friends and members of the community is also part of my role and it offers continuity to the lives of our residents. I love giving people a purpose and enabling our residents to do as much as possible of the things they love to do.

I cannot wait to welcome our residents into their wonderful new home and help to bring smiles, joy and laughter to each day.

Italian Night

Last night was pizza night at Sycamore Grove Care Home, all handmade by our residents! They were so excited to have pizza for dinner tonight. We had pepperoni, sausage, and veggie pizzas on the menu, they were baked in our kitchen and enjoyed by all!

Residents Enjoy Watercolour Afternoon

Sycamore Grove Residents Enjoy Watercolour Afternoon with residents from Hazel Lodge Care Home

Our residents at Sycamore Grove Care Home had a fun and creative afternoon of watercolour painting today! They enjoyed painting a variety of subjects, including butterflies, dragonflies, and flowers. The residents were all very talented, and their paintings turned out beautifully.

We are so grateful to our Activities Coordinator's Lynette from Sycamore Grove and Sonia from Hazel Lodge, who organised this event. She helped the residents to relax and express themselves creatively. We believe that art therapy is a valuable tool for promoting mental and emotional health, and we are so glad that our residents were able to participate in this activity.

Local MP visits care home for Carer's Week

We were delighted to host Huw Merriman MP , Frances McKenna, and Carole Gregory from Care for the Carers this week. They visited our wonderful home in Stone Cross to discuss Volunteers Week this week and Carers Week starting Monday.

We were able to show them all the amazing work that our volunteers do and how they make a real difference to the lives of our residents. We also discussed the challenges that carers face and how we can all play a role in supporting them.

We would like to thank Huw, Frances, and Carole for taking the time to visit us and for their support of our work.

Barchester Healthcare Celebrates Care Teams

We are so grateful to our care teams for all their hard work and dedication. To show our appreciation, we have given all our carers across our business some cheeky treats and chocolates.

We know that caring for our residents is a demanding job, but it is also incredibly rewarding. Our carers make a real difference to the lives of our residents, and we are so proud of everything they do.

Thank you for all that you do. We appreciate you!

Sycamore Grove Care Home hosts 5* Three Course Meal for Polegate Residents Association

Sycamore Grove Care Home was delighted to host a 5*, three course meal for the Polegate Residents Association on Thursday, 8th June. The event was part of the homes "Don't Dine Alone" initiative, which aims to provide companionship and support for people who are lonely in our community.

The meal was prepared by Sycamore Grove's very own award-winning chef, and it was absolutely delicious! The guests enjoyed a variety of dishes, including a starter of fresh soup, a main course of chicken with all the trimmings, and dessert.

The guests also had a chance to socialize and interact with each other. They shared stories, laughed, and enjoyed each other's company. The event was a huge success, and it showed how important it is to reach out to those who are lonely in our community.

We would like to thank the Polegate Residents’ Association for joining us to host this event. We are proud to be a part of this initiative, and we look forward to working with the Polegate residents association again in the future.

If you are feeling lonely, please do not hesitate to reach out to Sycamore Grove in Stone Cross, and we will see where we can help you or your loved ones. We can provide you with support and companionship, and they can help you connect with other people in our community.

The Tour de Barchester visited Sycamore Grove

The Tour de Barchester visited Sycamore Grove this morning for the 4th stage of the race! Riders set off from our home at 9am for a 72-mile trip to Purley. The total trip is 275 miles over 4 days.

We were so excited to see the riders come through our town. The atmosphere was electric, and everyone was cheering them on and we had special visitors from Bluebell Barn Nursery, the Polegate Town Council with Mayor and Deputy Mayor! It was a great day for cycling, and we're so glad that the Tour de Barchester came to Sycamore Grove.

We're all rooting for them, and we know they'll do great. If you're in the area, be sure to come out and cheer on the riders!
