Activities at Strachan House Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Hannah Beale

Activities Coordinator

Hello, I'm Hannah and I joined the Strachan House team in September 2024. I thoroughly enjoy being the Activities Coordinator, a role that delivers all-round support for our residents whilst organising an engaging, motivating and enjoyable activities programme.

I am lucky to spend quality time with residents and families, and use these opportunities to plan individualised events and outings. My professional background stems from seven years in planning corporate events and weddings, alongside social media marketing and recruitment.

In my free time, I enjoy exploring the Scottish countryside with my husband and dog after relocating from the south coast in 2024.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Life at Strachan House Care Home

Charity Cook Off

Staff and residents are celebrating because their wonderful Managing Director, Fiona Fagan, from Barchester’s North East and Scotland Division, has stepped completely out of her comfort zone to compete in the Barchester Charitable Foundation Cook Off 2024.

Fiona went head-to-head with the Managing Directors from Barchester’s four other divisions and cooked up a storm to raise a phenomenal £24,595 for Barchester’s Charitable Foundation which helps connect vulnerable people and those living with a disability to community groups in their local area by providing grants to improve mobility and quality of life.  Each year the Foundation distributes thousands of pounds to individuals, small community groups and charities across England, Scotland and Wales.

Making a Wish Come True

Making wishes come true.

Jason, a much cherished resident  has had held a life long passion for motor bikes and wished to see them again.

Our wonderful colleagues made Jason's dream came true when they reached out to the Dunedin Chapter Scotland HOG motor bike club.

The club were delighted to  be given the opportunity to visit and meet Jason at the home with an accompanying fleet of twenty stunning bikes.

It was a lovely day and one that Jason and his fellow residents will cherish.

Exploring the Eden Project

Residents across our homes had a fantastic time exploring the Eden Project virtually - an educational charity and visitor attraction based in Cornwall, featuring sprawling outdoor gardens and breathtaking biomes that house the largest indoor rainforest in the world.

During the session, residents who joined were reconnected with nature through their senses, memories and stories.  A big thank you to the community team at the Eden Project for the wonderful event.

Caring for carers

The ones that care for our loved ones; the ones who work so hard, who laugh with us, cry with us and are there in our moments of need. We wanted to say a huge thankyou to our amazing carers’ team, expressing our love and gratitude by giving something back to those who give so much! The care staff here at Strachan give were treated to a wonderful breakfast, followed by holistic therapies provided by Lisa at Positive flow therapies. Of course we couldn’t leave out the amazing residents who also enjoyed a pamper! Thank you to the carers for all that they do!

Summer BBQ

What a marvellous afternoon! We held our summer concert and BBQ to welcome in the new season with glorious sunshine, friends, family, dogs and a beautiful, theatrical performance from Debbie who performed ‘magical moments from musicals’ for all to enjoy! Our amazing kitchen team made a scrumptious spread of burgers, hot dogs and salads, and to top it off we enjoyed an assortment of delicious ice creams.

A beautiful way to welcome in the summer! A wonderful time shared with our community.

Artful Adventures

They say that art is born of the observation and investigation of nature. We were able to immerse ourselves in nature whilst enjoying wonderful expressive sculptures at Jupiter Artland! It was so tranquil walking through the woods, admiring the varied and thought provoking art as we listened to the birds chirping, the leaves rustling with the wind and the sound of our footsteps. We enjoyed a tea and coffee in the sunshine at the welcoming cafe and a lovely picnic lunch. It was a lovely day and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the adventure.
