Activities at Strachan House Care Home
Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Hannah Beale
Hello, I'm Hannah and I joined the Strachan House team in September 2024. I thoroughly enjoy being the Activities Coordinator, a role that delivers all-round support for our residents whilst organising an engaging, motivating and enjoyable activities programme.
I am lucky to spend quality time with residents and families, and use these opportunities to plan individualised events and outings. My professional background stems from seven years in planning corporate events and weddings, alongside social media marketing and recruitment.
In my free time, I enjoy exploring the Scottish countryside with my husband and dog after relocating from the south coast in 2024.
Activities and Events Partnerships
As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies
Life at Strachan House Care Home

Hole in one!
Here at Strachan we love to aid our residents in enjoying their favourite pass times once again. Two excited gentlemen went along with staff to Carrick Knowe golf club to hit a few balls. It was a lovely day and both gents came back beaming after enjoying the fresh air and beautiful, accessible friendly course! One gent mentioned he has not been to a golf course in over 30 years, something he had a passion for in his younger years.
Thank you to the cancer research store in Costorphine Edinburgh providing the clubs, we look forward to enjoying our very own mini-golf course in our garden and making use of our new sets!

Get moving!
Did someone tell us to get moving?! Challenge accepted!! As part of Barchester get moving challenge we decided to walk the West Highland Way…not only did we achieve this goal but we smashed it out the park, walking the west highland way an equivalent of 7 times in the span of only a week! What an astonishing achievement. Staff and residents totalled a whopping 1,362,964 steps or 680 miles! Huge congratulations are in order for all those who participated and a big well done. A special thank you to our amazing physio team for organising this challenge and holding us to account, ensuring we stay active.

Craigie's Farm Shop and Cafe
We enjoyed a wonderful afternoon spent at Craigie's Farm Shop and Cafe.
We indulged in a delicious cream tea, with sweet and savoury homemade scones, raspberry jam and of course cream!
The views of the water and farmland were just spectacular and we walked around the grounds to enjoy the fresh air and take it all in!
We enjoyed the adorable farm animals, particularly the curious miniature goats that came up to the fence to greet us.
Everyone had a smile on their face and a very full tummy! We look forward to visiting again.

Charity Cook Off
Staff and residents are celebrating because their wonderful Managing Director, Fiona Fagan, from Barchester’s North East and Scotland Division, has stepped completely out of her comfort zone to compete in the Barchester Charitable Foundation Cook Off 2024.
Fiona went head-to-head with the Managing Directors from Barchester’s four other divisions and cooked up a storm to raise a phenomenal £24,595 for Barchester’s Charitable Foundation which helps connect vulnerable people and those living with a disability to community groups in their local area by providing grants to improve mobility and quality of life. Each year the Foundation distributes thousands of pounds to individuals, small community groups and charities across England, Scotland and Wales.

Making a Wish Come True
Making wishes come true.
Jason, a much cherished resident has had held a life long passion for motor bikes and wished to see them again.
Our wonderful colleagues made Jason's dream came true when they reached out to the Dunedin Chapter Scotland HOG motor bike club.
The club were delighted to be given the opportunity to visit and meet Jason at the home with an accompanying fleet of twenty stunning bikes.
It was a lovely day and one that Jason and his fellow residents will cherish.

Exploring the Eden Project
Residents across our homes had a fantastic time exploring the Eden Project virtually - an educational charity and visitor attraction based in Cornwall, featuring sprawling outdoor gardens and breathtaking biomes that house the largest indoor rainforest in the world.
During the session, residents who joined were reconnected with nature through their senses, memories and stories. A big thank you to the community team at the Eden Project for the wonderful event.
