Activities at Strachan House Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Hannah Beale

Activities Coordinator

Hello, I'm Hannah and I joined the Strachan House team in September 2024. I thoroughly enjoy being the Activities Coordinator, a role that delivers all-round support for our residents whilst organising an engaging, motivating and enjoyable activities programme.

I am lucky to spend quality time with residents and families, and use these opportunities to plan individualised events and outings. My professional background stems from seven years in planning corporate events and weddings, alongside social media marketing and recruitment.

In my free time, I enjoy exploring the Scottish countryside with my husband and dog after relocating from the south coast in 2024.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Strachan Olympics 2024

What an afternoon of fun! We enjoyed the beautiful sunshine and garden as we held our very own Strachan Olympic Games! It was a great turn out as we competed in a multitude of events such as ‘Bizarre bowls,’ Shot put, Basketball, Table tennis, Resistant band Rowing and lawn darts!

A very special wish is delivered

Since arriving at Strachan House nearly 2-years ago, resident, Jane Hall has spoken fondly of her time owning and running her fashion boutique ‘Jane Davidson,’ which she established in 1969 at the Grassmarket. This part of Edinburgh holds a very special place in her heart and Jane wished to go back to visit the area that held so much joy and fond memories for her.

Jane is beloved by staff and residents alike. Staff at the home were delighted to be a part of making her dream come true, as they knew how much it meant to her, and they all wanted to see the smile on Jane’s face when her dream to be back in her old stomping ground was realised.

Homes join 100th virtual event

Barchester care homes and hospitals nationwide linked together for a fantastic quiz in celebration of Barchester’s 100th live virtual event.

Residents engaged in a variety of questions ranging from historical trivia to visual puzzles and brainteasers.

For those joining everyone had a fantastic time and enjoyed some friendly competition.

Colour me happy!

Residents from Strachan House spent a rainy Saturday afternoon making gorgeous handmade cards, inspired by flowers in our garden that have been lovingly tended to by our residents! We decided to make some three-dimensional cards for someone special, putting all our energy and focus into the creation of some truly beautiful art. We just love using colour and texture to convey a story! The residents were so please with what they had created and had a real sense of accomplishment and pride.
