Activities at Strachan House Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Natasha Rubin

Activities Coordinator

G’day! My name is Natasha and I am the activities lead here at Strachan House. I am Australian born and bred, braving the dark and the cold here in Edinburgh to enjoy the beautiful nature and wonderful people! I have a background in team management and design. I have always loved working with people and have a strong interest in mental health and well-being, recently embarking on a psychology degree with an interest in specialising in Art Therapy. I am working with the team to create a vibrant, engaging and person-centred home.

Flower Power

What a lovely session we have had today. Following a kind gifted delivery of flowers, some of our ladies quickly went to work to make sure they they weren't wasted.

What laughs and stories were shared as these beautiful displays were put together by them

Church Service

From baking, helping hands, church service with our friends from Blackhall St Columba's Church and foraging our tomatoes to a wonderful press release, it really has been a busy week so far and we are only on Wednesday.

With a packed few days ahead our residents are ready for another busy day

Gentleman's Club

The gents (Robert, Bernard, Alex & Alex) have loved this weeks gentleman's club - With a game of bowls in the garden, a wee drink and a good ole catch up.

The staff even enjoyed a round of golf on the putting green.

Enjoying the garden

Well, as we sit here and watch the rain fall from the windows, we think back to our most recent day out in the beautiful gardens of Strachan House.

As the weather changes, we are looking at our plans for the autumn season and can't wait to show you everything we get up to,,,,

Edingburgh Fringe Cares

Well what can we say!! Our afternoon was nothing short of magical in every way. Strachan House proudly presented their very first Edinburgh Fringe Cares event and our wonderful home that was transformed was just packed to the turrets. What an amazing team effort to which we have to applaud many.

To firstly Professor Joe Goldblatt for being the inspiration behind what will be set to be an amazing future between Edinburgh care homes and The Fringe. What a honour and privilege it was to meet him today and as ever Strachan House will always have a warm welcome for him.

To Edinburgh Interfaith Association for all their support in the organising of this foundational platform and it's development. And lets not forget the stars of the show Octavoce . Their incredible cappella harmonies took everyone on a magical journey of song and entertained our residents in true Fringe tradition
