Activities at Springvale Court Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Jess Bruford

Activities Coordinator

Hi, My name is Jess and I am Activities Coordinator here at Springvale Court. I am delighted to join the team, joining in December 2023 but I have found my feet with ease. I spend time getting to know all of our residents and this helps me to arrange meaningful activities based on individual likes and interests. I love spending time with our residents, be it chatting one to one, small reminiscing groups or large group activities.

I am looking forward to learning and growing with Barchester and I am always open to any ideas for new and different activities so please stop and chat with me.

Life at Springvale Court Care Home

25 Years for the Angel of the North

Today marks 25 years of the Angel of the North. A lot of our residents have fond memories of the Angel. This is something we spoke about in todays crafty session.

We looked at photos then we decided to recreate our very own pictures. All the residents have done a fabulous job and all their pictures are hanging proudly in the main entrance.

Just look at the smile on our lovely residents face... She was so proud of herself that she had done that painting all on her own, and everyone agrees that it looks amazing. Well done!

Love

Our lovely resident was absolutely thrilled when he was given his Valentine’s day card and sweet treat. The smile on his face just shows how happy he was.

Every resident received a card and a nice little treat. Everyone was so happy with them, most of the residents we spoke with told us they didn't think they would get a valentines this year but to their surprise they did.

We have done lots of Valentines themed activities the past week, Everyone who participated has left the activity smiling and in great spirits.

Royal Parks London

Across our services our residents have enjoyed a wonderful live virtual talk about starlings, one of the UK’s most gregarious birds, hosted by Rachel Dowse from The Royal Parks London.

Rachel examined our long history with this bird and the importance of common species to our lives. Our residents had the opportunity to find out more about the great murmuration and why we need to pay special attention to these beauties before it's too late.

The virtual experience was truly enjoyed by all.

How fit Chair exercising

Our residents thoroughly enjoyed todays How fit session. It was filled with laughter which makes everything 10x better.

We started off with some small foot movements then progressed onto bigger arm movements all to get the blood flowing round our body. When we say exercising, it doesn't have to be anything too hard or strenuous it can be anything that gets us moving, this is why we love How fit so much.

Singing for the brain

We had John from singing for the brain come in and give us a Christmas show. He took us through the years with music. We even had props to wave about or shake during the songs.
Every resident got involved singing songs from 50s, 60s,songs from Tyne and wear ect... A personal favourite was Blaydon races, everyone joined in and most remembered the words once they started singing.
The atmosphere upstairs was great after the session, everyone seemed so happy. It was great because John used a projector and props to keep everyone engaged in the activity.

A little walk out and about

One of our lovely residents expressed her wishes to go out for a walk and a cuppa. so we grabbed our coats, wrapped up and headed out. We walked down to Wrekenton where we stopped past Greggs for a cuppa, we had great chats about our lives and especially our previous interests.
This was a lovely example of a one to one session which brought our resident lots of smiles. She even said "Its been such a nice morning out, I hope we can do this again?"
