Activities at The Spires Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Angie Smith

Activities Coordinator

Hi, my name is Angie and I am an activities coordinator here at The Spires. We all know that keeping active is important. We have created a wonderful culture within the home and we work together to give residents the best possible experience. We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active.

We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centered program of events and activities. Essential to our homely feel is the strong relationships of trust we build with residents and their families and friends.

Residents Visit to Wolseley Bridge Garden Centre

It was all aboard the minibus as our Residents enjoyed a trip out to Wolsley Bridge Garden Centre.

The Spring flowers were on full display, with lots of varieties.  We discussed, which type we would use in flower beds, pots or hanging baskets and which colours would compliment each other.

Afterwards we headed to the coffee shop for a hot drink and a yummy slice of coffee and walnut cake.  It just has to be done!

Home celebrate Chinese New Year

Staff and residents at The Spires in Lichfield welcomed in the Year of the Dragon with a day of celebrations and activities.  Inspired by Chinese culture and traditions, residents at The Spires enjoyed trying traditional Chinese food generously donated by local Chinese restaurant Lee Garden in Lichfield.

Emily Randall, Activity Coordinator at the home said: “We are very grateful for the generous donation of food and support from our local Chinese restaurant Lee Garden. We have had a brilliant day, the home looks absolutely wonderful decorated all in red and we all had such fun finding out what animal we are, the associated traits and reading each other’s horoscopes.”

Jane a resident at The Spires said: “I loved the music, the food and reading our fortunes from the fortune cookies that were donated. I found it fascinating to learn about the Chinese Culture and even learnt my name in Chinese!”

Trip Down Memory Lane at Aldridge Transport Museum

Residents embarked on an adventure to the Aston Manor Road Transport Museum in Aldridge.

A wide range of vehicles awaited us, from vintage buses to commercial vehicles, all with a West Midlands connection.

We marvelled at the beautifully restored buses and even spotted some in various stages of restoration, soon to hit the road again.

Transport memorabilia took us down memory lane, sparking conversations about bygone eras.

On our return journey we popped into The Bowling Green pub for a tipple.

Another great day had by all The Spires.

Staying Active

What better way to start the day than with some gentle chair exercises.

We all know how important it is to keep healthy and active, so we are always looking for ways to support of Residents to do this.

In our latest sessions we used our new resistance bands and followed along to our ‘Move it or Lose it DVD’.

National Activity Providers & Professionals Week

Staff and residents at The Spires have been celebrating National Activity Providers & Professionals Week, which took place from January 22-26. Residents and staff wanted to thank the wonderful activities team at the home, whose hard work and dedication make a real difference to the lives of the Residents living there.

National Activity Providers & Professionals Week is an annual event to support activity professionals and thank them for all the many different varied activities they provide to residents. Each and every member of the team at The Spires offer unique, tailored activities and entertainment to the residents every single day. They always go above and beyond their role and for this everyone at the home is truly grateful.

Celebrating Burns Night

Here at The Spires Care Home, we would like to wish everyone a very happy Burns Night!

Our Residents celebrated this special occasion with the spirit of Scotland echoing through the halls.

The afternoon was filled with lively Scottish music, 'traditional' dances, a touch of whisky to warm the hearts, and poetic readings that paid tribute to the great Robert Burns.
